Harpist Annelise Ellars will be accompanying The Newtown Choral Society when they present Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols” as part of their holiday concert on Sunday, December 2, at 4 pm, at The Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

Tickets are $10; $8 for seniors and students. They will be available at the door.

Currently a student at Hartt School of Music and the Hartt Schools harpist, Miss Ellars has played with Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of St Joseph.

“Ceremony of Carols” was written in the 1940s while Britten was on a ship returning to England from the United States during World War II.

The choir, under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, will also perform other joyous songs of the season as well as “Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas,” which highlights musical styles from six centuries.

A highlight will be a doo-wop interpretation of “Three Kings” based on the 30s song “Blue Moon” and arranged by choir tenor Dan Coffmann.

The audience will be invited to join the choir in “Joy to the World” for conclusion of the concert.
