Newtown Color Guards Spin Their Flags To The Top

Bunnell High School in Stratford hosted the Musical Arts Conference (MAC) competition on Saturday, February 23, when the Newtown Junior Varsity Color Guard earned first place in the middle school division with a score of 69.9 with its show “It’s Coming.”

Newtown Varsity color guard performed “Hypnosis” and received second place in the Scholastic National A division, with a score of 71.33.

Both color guard groups will compete Saturday, March 2, at the MAC competition, to be held at Naugatuck High School.

Newtown Percussion spends 16 to 20 hours each week in preparation for competitions. Its four-movement show is titled “Look Up.” On Saturday, March 2, it will compete in the WGI Regional at Trumbull High School. Preliminaries will take place between 9:30 am and 2:30 pm. The highest scoring groups in each division will compete again between 5:30 and 8:30 pm.
