Newtown Continuing Education announced it has limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787, 9 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday, for further information on dates, times, and location, or visit newtowncontinuinged.orgFused Glass Holiday Ornament/Workshop: Snowflakes - A single session being offered on Tuesday, November 14, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, $49. Guided by a pattern, students will create two beautiful snowflakes using strips and bits of glass. These are a wonderful seasonal decoration for any home. No previous experience necessary. Ornaments will be ready for pickup approximately one week following the workshop. There will be optional specialty glass available for an extra fee. Please wear closed shoes and long pants. The class is not handicap accessible, and it is limited to ten students. Hot cider will be served.What Are You Eating? - A single session being offered on Tuesday, November 21, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $29. What we eat impacts our health. Learn what to look for when shopping in the grocery store. The course will cover the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed beef, when to buy organic, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup and their impact on health, and the benefits of fish oil and fats that are heart healthy.Green Cleaning With Essential Oils - A single session being offered on Wednesday, November 29, $15. Learn about essential oils and how to use them to promote healthy living, and improve physical and emotional health. The class includes take-homes, including samples, DIY items made during class, and handouts.Holiday Sparkle In The Big Apple - A bus trip to Manhattan, December 2, departs NHS at 9:30 am, $109. The day will begin at Bryant Park for holiday shopping, with more than 125 boutiquelike kiosks. Then a full course lunch at Buca Di Beppo in Times Square, a popular Italian eatery served family style. The menu will be house bread, mixed salad and Caesar salad, fettucini Alfredo, spaghetti marinara, Parmigiana, dessert, soft drinks, and coffee. Lunch will be followed by a two-hour guided riding tour of Manhattan's holiday lights with a New York City guide with stops along the way. The group will see the tree at Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue windows, and more. No discounts apply.The Origins Of The Victorian Christmas - A single session being offered on Monday, December 4, $59. Christmas was not always celebrated in the United States. Learn the story of how Victorian traditions made Christmas the holiday that is celebrated today and its impact on movies, literature, and American culture.Microsoft Publisher - A two session class starting on Monday, December 4, $69. Microsoft Publisher is a popular desktop publishing program that is intuitive and easy-to-use. Publisher makes it easy to incorporate text and graphics into professional looking layouts. The class will work through several examples of publications, such as business cards, calendars, certificates, newsletters, brochures, and fliers.Cardio Calorie Blast - A six-session course starting on Tuesday, December 5. Join this class to get fit, have fun, and relieve stress. Increase energy with this uplifting and upbeat class that provides three workouts in one. This efficient and effective workout will include aerobics, toning exercises, and yoga stretching. Students will utilize the latest fitness principles to maximize calorie and fat burning, in addition to ways to increase the intensity of exercise. All levels of fitness are welcome. Low-impact, low-intensity exercises and modifications to exercises will be demonstrated. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights (3 lbs for beginners, 5 lbs+ for advanced).Totally Toned - A six-session class starting on Tuesday, December 5, 3:15 to 4:15 pm, $69. Join this class to tone up and have fun. Each class will include a warm-up, toning exercises utilizing handheld weights or the body's own resistance and stretching. This course will help tone up and increase metabolism by increasing muscle cells. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights to each class (3 lbs for beginners and 5 lbs+ for advanced).Excel Refresher, Formulas and Functions - A single session class on Thursday, December 7, $39. This one-night class will provide a thorough review of using formulas and functions in Microsoft Excel. Formulas and functions are at the heart of using Excel to do calculations and to manipulate the contents of your spreadsheets. The course will help improve upon Excel skills or brush up on some features that may not have been used for a while. Some prior experience with Excel is recommended.Integral Qigong And Tai Chi - An eight-class course, starting January 2, 6:30 to 7:30 pm, $104. Qigong, and later tai chi, were developed and refined over thousands of years with the exact purpose of mindful evolution of body, mind, and spirit. Experience and learn easy to follow qigong and tai chi movements and techniques to develop a personal practice for health and well-being. Prepare to be relaxed and rejuvenated. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing.
