Windows 10, An Overview — A one-class course Wednesday, March 27, 3:15 pm to 5:45 pm, $39. Microsoft Windows 10 has several significant user interface changes, a brand new browser (replacing Internet Explorer), a new digital assistant (called Cortana), and other changes as well. For those looking for helpful guidance, come to this one-time class for a demonstration and discussion of Windows 10 and see what’s new and different and some of the basics that have stayed the same.

Market Corrections And How They Can Affect My Retirement — A one-class course, Thursday, March 28, 6:30 pm to 8 pm, $29. The class will cover the value of planning and staging retirement to potentially be prepared for events, like ways to hedge or shelter a portfolio when events happen, buying low and selling high, how taxes can play an equally important role in retirement, and whether a plan can weather the storm of a correction and recover.

Beginner German — A six-class course on Thursdays, starting March 28, 6:30 pm to 8 pm, $125. The instructor, a native speaker, will offer language skills for those people who have little or no prior exposure to the German language. Students will learn how to communicate with simple questions and sentences. Everyday German life will also be discussed in this class. Students will be required to purchase the book German In 10 Minutes A Day. No discounts apply.

Safe Boating/Personal Watercraft Certification Course — A four-class course on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting April 23, 7 pm to 9 pm, $25. This eight-hour course over four nights provides the student with satisfactory requirements to obtain the certification of personal watercraft operation, which allows the operation of motorized recreational vessels up to 65 feet, personal watercraft and sailboats 19½ feet in length and longer. Upon successful completion of this course, which includes an exam taken at the end of class, the student will be eligible to purchase their boating certificate for $50 online. This certificate is a one-time lifetime certification. If possible, students should bring their DEEP conservation I.D. with them to the first class. Make The Best First Impression — A one-class course on Monday, April 1, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, $30. This one-hour presentation will provide students with extraordinary resources, interview tips, the “do’s and don’ts” of applying to jobs, how to make the best first impression to potential employers, and much more. Let’s Get A Job — A one-class course, Thursday, March 28, 6 pm to 9 pm, $100. The ultimate career counseling bundle, offered at an introductory price. Learn how to write a resume and cover letter, make a LinkedIn profile, and ace that interview. No discounts apply.

7 Foundations, Tools For Transformation — A seven-class course on Tuesdays, starting April 2, 7 pm to 9 pm, $199. Join Karen Pierce for an experiential seven-week workshop on creating health and harmony using simple, yet powerful, tools for deep healing and transformation.

Hudson River Cruise And White Glove Tour — A day-trip that will depart from Newtown High School at approximately 9:30 am on Sunday, June 23, $134. Begin the day with a rare and unusual experience at Mount Gulian Historic Site, a 1600s colonial homestead in Beacon, New York. Take a tour of the site, including the kitchen, barn, and garden. Then don white gloves to touch, hold, and examine 300-year-old artifacts as part of the site’s archival collection. (Steps are required to get into house, and there is no elevator). Prior to the cruise, lunch will be at the River Grill. Located in Newburgh’s historic district on the Hudson River, the restaurant features delicious food and magnificent water views. The menu will include: garden salad; a choice of penne a la vodka, filet of sole stuffed with crab meat, chicken marsala, or grilled flank steak; potato; warm brownie sundae; and a soda or coffee. Attendees will be asked to select an entree choice in advance. The River Rose is an authentic New Orleans paddle wheeler that departs from Newburgh, New York, and heads south offering a two-hour narrated tour of historically significant sites such as Bannerman’s Island, Catskill Water Aqueduct, Storm King Mountain, Breakneck Mountain, Village of Cole Spring, and West Point. Raising Backyard Chickens For The Beginner — A two-class course on Thursdays, starting March 21, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $79. Backyard chickens are the new “it” pet. Learn what it takes to raise a flock (i.e. money, time, supplies involved) and how to keep them happy and healthy. Topics to be covered will be breeds of chickens, starting a flock, coop and flock management, chicken behavior, and more. No discounts apply.

Raising Goats — A one-class course on Thursday, April 4, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $49. Goats are useful, incredibly entertaining, and rewarding as pets and producers. Find out all there is to know about raising goats. Topics will include getting started, breeds and their use, supplies and shelter, keeping goats healthy, goat milk and other products, and much more. Paint Your Pet — A one-class course, Thursday, March 28, 6 pm to 8:30 pm, $69. Imagine the thrill of seeing a precious fur baby on a 12-inch-by-12-inch canvas. How? Easy! Color On Wheels is coming to make this all possible. After registering for the class, submit an electronic, clear, close-up of the pet’s face to by e-mail to gellise@newtown.k12.ct.us. Files will be sent to the artist, who will transfer a simple pencil outline sketch of the pet’s basic features, onto the canvas. The evening of the class, the instructor will guide course-goers to paint the background and then work with individuals to paint and shade to create the image of their pet. All supplies are provided. Limited to eight students. No discounts apply.

Modern Homesteading — Offered in three sessions of one-class each, the course is designed to inspire and motivate students to DIY their own backyard and gain valuable skills once utilized by our great-grandparents. Students can sign up for one or all three classes, $199 for the three classes or $69 per class. The instructors are Forest Clinton and Michelle Nardozzi.

Session I: What is Homesteading? Wednesday, May 8, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $69. The session will cover how to get started; raising homestead animals like chickens, goats, ducks, pigs, etc; and why its valuable. It will also cover the time/cost/supplies involved.

Session II: Seed Saving, Starting Plants From Seed, Swapping and Making Kombucha. Wednesday, May 15, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $69. Why save seeds? The class will cover how to select, process, and store seeds along with how and why to swap seeds. Students are encouraged to bring their own seeds, non-gmo please, to swap. Students will also learn to make their own probiotic-rich, immune-boosting, gut-healthy tea, and will take home a scoby (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) for more at home brews.

Session III: All Natural, Homemade Lotion. Wednesday, May 22, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $69. Learn the process of making lotion, what supplies are needed, and much more.
