Handcrafted Greeting Cards — A three-class course starting October 10, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $69. Send sentiments from the heart with a handcrafted card. Learn assorted paper crafting techniques and practice them during this fun and easy card-making class. Each participant will have the opportunity to test and use different cutting tools and coloring agents and to get familiar with common card and envelope sizes. All skill levels welcome. A materials fee of $30 is payable to the instructor on the first night of class.

Flowers 101 And Floral Design — A one-class course on October 11, 7 pm to 9 pm, $35. This two-hour course will explore various types of flowers while students learn about which flowers are in season when; about the floral industry as it is today; and about the push for locally grown, community supported organic flowers. The second half of the class will speak to principles of floral design and the overall creative expression that flower arranging brings. As part of this interactive course, participants will get to design their own one of a kind arrangements or floral head dresses to take home at the end of class. A materials fee of $15 is payable to the instructor the first night of class. No discounts apply.

Cover Letter Writing — A one-class course on October 11, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, $49. This one-hour presentation teaches the dos and don’ts of cover letter writing, its purpose, and outlines exactly what goes into a top-notch cover letter to make the best first impression to a potential employer.

Finding a Job in Today’s Market — A three-class course starting October 11, 7 pm to 9 pm, $89. For those who want to search for a new job but do not know where to start or who are looking for a new opportunity, the course will help students discover how to successfully prepare for a new role, including skills identification, resume development, search techniques, and effective interviewing strategies. This course is limited to 12 participants.

Gardening Indoors For Happy Houseplants — A one-class course on October 15, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $39. Many gardeners have great green thumbs when it comes to outdoor plants, but then have a difficult time with indoor plants. This class will help students expand their knowledge and know-how. It will cover all sorts of houseplant situations and offer advice on how to keep houseplants happy, what plants to choose (and what to avoid), where to place them, and how to maintain and overwinter indoor potted plants (and when and what to put outside in warmer weather). From common varieties of houseplants to orchids, African violets, and more, the class will tackle the different challenges of indoor gardening.

What Is The Cloud, And Am I Using It? — A one-class course on October 16, 6:30 pm to 9 pm, $39. So what is “The Cloud” anyway? The term cloud refers to the sharing of data and programs over the internet. Here are some common examples of using the cloud: sharing files using Drop Box or One Drive, backing up important data using Carbonite; keeping track of schedules using Google Calendar; using online versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint; using Google Docs to create and collaborate on documents; using online versions of popular programs such as Quickbooks; using Amazon to access your music library from anywhere; and more. Concepts and usage of the cloud will be demonstrated with a Windows PC, with a tablet, and with a Chromebook. Come to this one-night demonstration and discussion to finally understand what is meant by “the cloud.”Self

Hypnosis Workshop — A one-class course on October 16, 7 pm to 8:30 pm, $54. Beginning with a stress reduction group hypnosis session, students will experience firsthand the benefits of hypnosis. The class will move on to teaching how to hypnotize oneself, literally at the drop of a finger. Finally, students will learn how they can use the power of hypnosis to draw on the resources of their subconscious mind every day. Hypnosis can help a person become a thoughtful eater, a better student, a non-smoker, more tranquil, and more confident. Access will be provided to an audio file that students may use as a refresher to reinforce what has been learned in this workshop. No discounts apply.

Financial Strategies For Successful Retirement — A three-class course starting October 16, $39. With financial independence, retirement can be the most fulfilling time of life. This class covers important money management concepts and issues that are valuable to people near or at retirement. Topics include how to reduce pressures on retirement income and which assets are appropriate for retirement income. A “hear it, see it, read it, write it” teaching method makes it easy to understand and remember the practical information. No products or investments will be promoted or offered. By condensing up-to-date financial information into three classroom sessions, this seminar gives the answers needed. A $30 material fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

The Value Of Family Life Planning, Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Healthcare Directives, Long-Term Care Insurance, Etc — A one-class course on October 17, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, $29. The course will cover the importance of Will (estate), Living Will, Curable Power of Attorney (POA), Health Care Directive & Proxy, Revocable & Irrevocable Trusts, DNR, MOLST/POLST, and other terms. This is a how-to class with references, samples, examples, and real-life experiences.

Beginning Filmmaking Using iMovie — A one-class course on October 22, 6:30 pm to 9 pm, $39. Students with an iPhone or iPad can make a movie right from their own device. Learn how to create an iMovie using pictures and original video. Students will need to purchase and download iMovie onto their device prior to class.

Fusing Glass Holiday Ornament/Sun Catcher Workshops — A one-class course with two possible times, October 18, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm or 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, $69 per class period. Get a jump start on holiday gift-making by joining glass artist Kelly Makuch in her home-based glass studio for a festive ornament/sun catcher-making workshop. Take inspiration from a variety of patterns or use pre-cut glass bases to craft a holiday gift or keepsake. Ms Makuch will provide all materials needed and will teach basic glass-cutting skills. Students can expect to complete two projects. No previous experience necessary. Ornaments will be ready for pick-up approximately one week following the workshop. Students should wear closed shoes and long pants. There is a materials fee of $8 to be paid to the artist at the time of the class. Optional specialty glass will be available for purchase. Hot cider will be served. Limited to ten students. The class is not handicap accessible (stairs). All classes will be held at Kelly Makuch Studio, 222 Brushy Hill Road.
