The Newtown Fund Depot Day, when gifts are collected and distributed to designated local families, is only a few weeks away.

“The help of Newtown residents always makes this day extra special,” says Linda Bates, organization president. “Please let us know if you are interested in sharing this holiday activity.”

Since 1959, The Newtown Fund has helped Newtown’s residents in need during the December holidays. Most referrals come through the town’s Social Service Department or local clergy. Families, couples, and individuals — who are referred to The Fund by Newtown Social Services — receive emergency donations throughout the year, but the holiday season is the time when The Fund and generosity of residents provide the most help to make their holiday and their lives brighter.

This year’s Depot Day is scheduled for Saturday, December 15. It will take place at Fraser Woods School, 173 South Main Street, and will begin at 7:30 am.

There are plenty of opportunities to help, whether to donate needed items for one family, dozens of smaller items for each of the families, or to volunteer time on Depot Day. To make a financial donation, mail a check payable to The Newtown Fund, PO Box 641, Newtown CT 06470. The Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) charity, which makes all donations tax deductible.

Contact Linda Bates at 203-426-5189 or lbatescpa@aol.com or visit thenewtownfund.org for additional information or to volunteer for any aspect of this year’s Depot Day.

Volunteers are sought for this year’s event, scheduled for ten days before Christmas.  (Rhonda Cullens photo)
