Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse, baseball, tennis, and golf team results from the week of April 10-16:

Lacrosse Team Splits

The girls’ lacrosse team kept its winning streak against South-West Conference foes, dating back to the 2006 season, intact with a 15-12 comeback win at New Milford on April 10. The Nighthawks trailed 9-7 at halftime before rallying. Meaghan Brophy led the way with six goals and a two assists, and Erin Kenning added four net-finders.

The Hawks, after a 3-0 start to the campaign, suffered a 12-7 loss to unbeaten Hall of West Hartford on April 12. Newtown trailed just 5-4 at halftime before Hall reeled off five unanswered goals to seize control early in the second half.

On The Diamond

The baseball team dropped a 2-1 nail-biter to visiting Weston on April 10. Virgil Procaccini had two hits and scored a run, and Justin DeVellis had a hit and drove in Newtown’s run. Reid Schmidt collected a pair of hits. Starting pitcher Pat Mullins went six-plus innings, and allowed just one run on four hits, and compiled 11 strikeouts. Newtown fell to 3-2 overall.

From The Tennis Courts

Newtown’s girls’ tennis team remained unbeaten, and improved to 6-0 with three 7-0 triumphs, besting New Fairfield and Bunnell of Stratford on back-to-back days, April 10 and 11, and New Milford on April 15. In the wins over Bunnell and New Fairfield, all of Newtown’s victories came in the minimum two sets.

Against New Fairfield, Newtown winners were top singles player Caroline Kelly, followed by Lauren Beier, Mia Terracino, and Maggie Kost. In doubles play, Newtown’s tandems were Stephanie Roman/Julia Frattaroli, Lauren Frazzetta/Annie Beier, and Grace Winans/Aimee Alexander.

In the win over Bunnell, Kelly, Lauren Beier, Frazzetta, and Emily Jerris rolled to victory, as did doubles teams of Roman/Frattaroli, Annie Beier/Meghan Logan, and Winans/Rachel Durno.

Against New Milford, Kelly, Lauren Beier, Terracino, and Lily Mittleman all came out on top in singles play. The doubles winners were Roman/Frattaroli, Annie Beier/Frazzetta, and Winans/Kost.

The NHS boys also earned three wins this past week, improving to 4-1 overall. Newtown toppled New Fairfield and Bunnell each by 6-1 counts, and got past New Milford 4-3.

Against New Fairfield, Cam McCleary, Sean Elliott, and Yosi Kohrman-Glaser won at first, second, and fourth singles, respectively. Newtown’s doubles winners were Nic Klein/Keaton McCleary, Matt Carino/Kunal Marwah, and Mike Dutsar/Pete Winans.

In the win over Bunnell, Elliott, Ricky Fuentes, and Kohrman-Glaser won in singles play. Newtown’s doubles winners were Klein/Keaton McCleary, Carino/Marwah, and James Frazzetta/Charlie Poarch.

All of Newtown’s singles players — Cam McCleary, Elliott, Fuentes, and Kohrman-Glaser — came out on top in the victory over New Milford.

On Course

The boys’ golf team improved to 3-1 by shooting a 165 in a win over visiting Bethel (199) at Rock Ridge Country Club on April 10. Brian LeBlanc shot a 41, Josh Houle and Colin Patrick both shot a 42, and Graham Hubbert shot a 40 in the win.
