Newtown Savings Bank, along with the Newtown Chamber of Commerce, hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event on Monday, October 16, to celebrate the opening of its new branch at 32 Church Hill Road.NSBonline.com or call 800-461-0672.

The new branch, which relocated from the former 39 Main Street address on September 25, features an expanded lobby as well as two drive-up banking lanes and both drive-up and walk-up ATMs.

In addition to the branch, the new building houses the bank's Newtown Investment Solutions group and a mortgage origination team. The bank's administrative offices and the existing drive up ATM remain at 39 Main Street.

More than 100 people were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony which was followed by welcome comments from Newtown Savings Bank President and CEO John Trentacosta, Executive Vice President Ken Weinstein, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, and Newtown Chamber President Brian Amey.

Immediately thereafter, Mr Trentacosta presented a check for $3,000 to Z. Michael Taweh, founder of the nonprofit Kevin's Community Center, to be used toward their newly acquired medical building in Newtown.

The new branch features an original art display by Newtown artist Charles Fulkerson. The display is titled "Painted Ladies" and features 12 historic homes along Main Street.

Another highlight is a reproduction of the original mural depicting Newtown civic and commercial landmarks that was painted in 1964 at the 39 Main Street location by local artist Elizabeth Turner-Hall, formerly known as Elizabeth Hoeffner.

There is also a Newtown map from 1868 displayed in the entrance way of the new building.
