Newtown will be well-represented by 24 runners who will run in the Ragnar Relay Cape Cod May 3 and 4. There will be women’s and men’s 12-person teams, named Newtown Strong and Newtown Strong 2. The participants will raise money for Newtown Youth and Family Services by running nearly 200 miles overnight from Hull, Mass to Provincetown, Mass. A team of 12 classmates and friends of 1995 Newtown High School graduates Krista and Rich Rekos, parents of Jessica Rekos, a victim of 12/14, will honor the family by participating in the Ragnar Relay. Team Jessica will run in Jessica’s memory and to raise money and awareness for the Jessica Rekos Memorial Fund. They will support her love for whales. All proceeds will help to promote awareness and understanding of oceanic mammal research for children of all ages through a collaboration with the Whale and Dophin Conservation Society.

Their hope is to honor Jessica as scientists, parents, and children continue the research that Jessica was unable to complete. Donations may be made by visiting teamjessicarekos.org.
