Nighthawk Swimmers Place Fifth In South-West Conference Finals

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team placed fifth among 13 schools to compete in the South-West Conference championships this past week. The diving competition took place on October 30 and the swim finals were held on November 2 — both at Masuk High School in Monroe.

Newtown scored 305 points. The winner, Weston, had 522. Newtown’s results are as follows:

200 Yard Freestyle Relay: 5. Megan McDonald, Annika Fagerholm, Eliza Eggleston, and Amy Martinelli, 1:56.76 32.

200 Freestyle: 16. Emily Papp, 2:08.92. 18. Bridget Duero, 2:09.71.

200 Individual Medley: 6. McDonald, 2:19.66. 14. Ellen Atkinson, 2:28.79.

50 Free: 3. Martinelli, 25.06. 7. Eggleston, 26.23.

100 Butterfly: 15. Eggleston, 1:07.10.

100 Free: 5. Martinelli, 55.41. 11. Papp, 58.74.

500 Free: 13. Duero, 5:52.22.

200 Free Relay: 4. Eggleston, Casey Klein, Papp, and Martinelli, 1:46.75.

100 Backstroke: 5. McDonald, 1:03.43. 14. Klein, 1:07.62.

100 Breaststroke: 8. Fagerholm, 1:13.75. 14. Atkinson, 1:16.56.

400 Free Relay: 6. McDonald, Papp, Duero, and Fagerholm, 3:56.79.

Diving: 2. Kari Djonne. 3. Noelle Benson.

Annika Fagerholm and the Nighthawks came in fifth among 13 schools in the South-West Conference finals.
