The Connecticut Department of Transportation has issued details ahead of scheduled nighttime work on two local I-84 ramps planned for this week.

The closures and detours are reportedly necessary to facilitate maintenance and safety improvements of dozens of existing bridges over and under I-84.

State Representative Mitch Bolinsky shared the information with constituents Tuesday morning.

Each ramp will be closed for two nights. The I-84 West Exit 10 ramp will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, May 15-16. The I-84 East Exit 9 ramp will be closed Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.

Work hours for each project are scheduled between 10 pm and 5 am.

The DOT plans to have detour signs posted each night.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in the vicinity and avoid distractions, State Rep Bolinsky said in his e-mail.

“These inconveniences are short-term and temporary but part of the state's long-term investment in bridge maintenance and overall safety,” he added.

Residents with questions about the closures, or any other matter related to state government, are invited to contact Mr Bolinsky at 800-842-1423 or mitch.bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov.

Planned work on two I-84 ramps in Newtown this week mean temporary closures. The DOT plans to have detour signs in place for the overnights of May 15-16, when the Exit 10 West ramps are temporarily closed, and then for the overnights of May 17-18 when the Exit 9 East ramps are expected to be closed.
