Through an email to parents Thursday, March 27, Newtown Middle School Principal Thomas Einhorn announced that NMS Assistant Principal Anthony Salvatore is retiring.

Dr Salvatore has worked in the Newtown school district for 15 years, as an assistant principal at Reed Intermediate School, and assistant principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and as the assistant principal at NMS.

The Newtown Board of Education has yet to discuss and accept Dr Salvatore’s retirement request.

The following is Dr Einhorn’s letter to parents announcing Dr Salavtore’s retirement.

Dear NMS Parents/Guardians,

I am writing to inform you that Dr. Anthony Salvatore, Assistant Principal, has made the decision to retire after 35 years in education, 20 years as a teacher and 15 years in Newtown as an administrator.

Dr. Salvatore has done much for our school community. He has been an advocate for students, staff and parents. He has dedicated his professional life to making a difference in others’ lives. We appreciate his work and wish him well in all of his future endeavors as he will not be returning to our school this spring as previously planned.

Dr. John Smith, who has been with us since December, has agreed to remain at the Middle School and assist us for the balance of the school year as our Interim Assistant Principal. We are very fortunate to have someone of Dr. Smith’s experience continue to assist us with the duties of a middle school administrator.

Again, we wish Dr. Salvatore well and we will miss him.

Sincerely,

Thomas R. Einhorn

Principal

Tony Salvatore
