Although historically The Newtown Bee has been able to provide publication of obituaries for no fee, the time has come when we must bow to the modern costs of producing a local newspaper.

Obituaries and memorials accepted for publication after January 1, 2019 will be  charged $25 for obituaries and $10 for memorials printed in The Newtown Bee and/or posted at newtownbee.com.

Obituaries are accepted only for those who were current Newtown/Sandy Hook residents at the time of death; were former residents of Newtown/Sandy Hook; or for those with immediate relatives (children, parents, spouses, siblings) currently living here.

Obituaries must be submitted by a funeral home or family member directly to alissa@thebee.com or delivered to the office at 5 Church Hill Road during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Family submissions must include daytime contact information and billing information/address if submitted by e-mail; or payment must accompany submission.

Deadline for obituaries is Thursday, 9:30 am, for publication in that week’s edition of The Newtown Bee.

A FREE death notice listing only for those who resided in Newtown/Sandy Hook at time of death is available by mailing deceased’s name, place of residence, brief funeral information, and date of death to alissa@thebee.com or delivering to the 5 Church Hill Road office no later than Thursday, 9:30 am, for publication in that week’s edition of The Newtown Bee.
