Occupation: I do a lot of volunteer work now and I was on the Legislative Council for eight years. I started out as a Spanish teacher at Danbury High School in the late 1960s, and then I did real estate with McCulloch Real Estate and William Raveis in Newtown.

Family: My husband, Tony, who retired from IBM but is now teaching in Bridgeport. We met when both of us were teachers at Danbury High School. We have four children, Susan, who is a flight attendant with Continental; Robert, who just moved to Singapore; my daughter Jennifer and her husband, Greg, who live in Charlotte, N.C.; and my son Todd is a lawyer in Savannah. We have two grandsons, Gavin, who is 1 year old, in Savannah and Smith, who is 3½ years old in Charlotte.

Pets: I did like my dog, Mikey, a Bijon who died two years ago, but I’m enjoying pet-free life for now.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve lived here for 36 years, longer than anywhere else I’d ever lived before.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to shop, and I love to cook and bake. I volunteer, mostly at St Rose right now. I help Father Bob with the boutiques and raffles, that sort of thing.

Do you have a favorite book? My favorite book of all time is Gone With the Wind. And I could watch the movie over and over again.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We used to go to Cape Cod a lot when the kids were little. Now my husband and I like to go to Ogunquit, Maine. For our 40th anniversary last year we went to Ireland. I’d go back in a heartbeat. It’s a beautiful country and the people are lovely.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I guess it is the small town feel. It’s a very pretty town. I love the view of the flagpole from the top of Castle Hill or even just coming up Main Street. We have a beautiful town and nice people.

If you could spend the day with anyone, who would that be? I was very close to my mother who died six years ago. If I could have just one more day with her, I would be eternally grateful.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I try to pack as much as I can into each day and I live each day as best I can. I try to help people whenever I can.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? It would have to be chocolate, dark chocolate, of course. But I really do try not to eat too much of it.
