Occupation: I’m an office manager in accounts payable for A&M Wood Recycling and Mulch. Our yard is in Shelton, but I work out of Monroe. I also do accounting one day a week for Jantris Marketing in Newtown.

Family: I have a husband, Nick, and we have two daughters. Morgan is 15½ years old, and Kelsey is almost 10 years old.

Pets: We have a Welsh corgi named Tucker, and four cats: Gracie, Callie, Penny, and Moose. We got Moose when we went on vacation in Pike, N.H. We were out fishing and saw him sitting on the riverbank, just a little kitten, so we took him home. That was near Moosilauki Highway, so we named him Moose. And he is a huge, black cat now.

How long have you lived in Newtown? My husband has lived here his whole life, and I moved here my junior year of high school, from Texas. We moved away to Derby after we got married, but moved back in 1999 when our daughter started school.

What do you like to do in your free time? Both my kids and husband race go-carts from April to October. Our track is at the Berlin Fairgrounds, so that’s what we do two Sundays a month. I do read in my free time, and we do a lot of winter activities with the girls. We spend a lot of the off-season getting ready for the next go cart season, though.

What are you reading now? I just picked up a Kathy Reichs book — the TV series Bones is based on her book series. I read some Harlan Coben. He writes suspense and mystery books. And when I need a laugh, I read something by Janet Evanovich.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We like the beach the best. We spend quite a bit of time at Point Judith, R.I., where we have a little family cabin. It’s close by, and we’ve been going there since my husband and I were in college.

What is the best thing about Newtown? We live in one of the original neighborhoods in town, and I like the sense of community, like with the Labor Day Parade. It still has a small town appeal.

What is the biggest change you have seen in town? It seems like there are so many people who move in for a short while, and then move right out, more than when I was younger. It has become a much more “commuting” town.

Who do you most admire? My mother is the person I look up to the most. Now that I’m a parent with a husband and two daughters, I don’t know how she did it as a single mother with three daughters. It is hard to raise kids with two parents, so I find it amazing what she did.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I always stress honesty. There is nothing better. You always have to be honest.

What makes you happiest? My family. It’s a sense of accomplishment and achievement. And if you have a bad day, your family is still happy to see you — especially the dog.
