A Fall Carnival is coming to town.

Resident Bob Connor first approached Parks and Recreation Department members roughly a year ago with an idea for something new, said Assistant Director of Recreation RoseAnn Reggiano. "He wanted to do something nice for the town. He wanted to try [a carnival]," she said.

The three-day event - scheduled from Friday, October 20, through Sunday, October 22 - promises rides, games, food, and "fun, fun, fun," Ms Reggiano said.

Food trucks will also be on site, according to a press release from Parks & Rec. Expected food trucks include DrewbaQ, Milkcraft ice cream, Rice & Beans, Cinnamon Churros, Frank Andrews Mobile Kitchen (wood-fired pizza), Szabo's Seafood, and Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes.

Mr Connor had contacted Stewart Amusement, which is the company that runs the St Rose carnival, and he and the recreation members chose Fairfield Hills for the location.

"I wanted to do something nice for the town," Mr Connor said. He feels that Fairfield Hills is an ideal location.

"It never hurts to have a little fun in town. I have been in town since I was a kid. I thought this would be a nice thing, everyone likes something like this," he said.

After first speaking with department Director Amy Mangold, Mr Connor said, "It took us a long time to get it together. We wanted to have it be successful and have something to build on for next year, something fun." He hopes the fall carnival can become an annual event.

Seeking both sponsors and volunteers, Mr Connor said, "We would like community involvement."

Volunteers are needed for the inaugural presentation, with various openings still available as of Friday, October 13. Registration can be done online at signupgenius.com.

The carnival will serve as a fundraiser for the Parks and Recreation Department. Funds will contribute to the Park Gift Fund, which supports "everything Park and Rec does," Ms Reggiano said.

The fund benefits the many programs and facilities that fall under the management of the department including summer camperships, the Victory Garden at Fairfield Hills, Newtown Fruit Trail, Newtown Park & Bark, Dickinson Memorial Park and Jack's Grove, the Torpedoes swim team, Summer Jam Concert Series, the skate park, Orchard Hill Nature Center, Treadwell Memorial Park, the Mad Dash, the memorial bench project, Treadwell Park's 26 trees project, Honan Memorial, the outdoor fitness station, frisbee golf, and more.

Carnival hours will be Friday, 6 to 10 pm; Saturday, 1 to 10 pm; and Sunday, 1 to 5 pm. Unlimited ride wristbands are $25 per person, per day. Volunteers will be given discounts toward ride bracelets.

Ride tickets will also be available for purchase. Cash only will be accepted.
