Pickleball Court Money Could Be Better Spent
To the Editor:
When we vote on April 23, we are voting with our pocketbooks and priorities for what’s best for the town.
Four pickleball courts are on the referendum, to the tune of $290,000 minus a $25,000 gift, if approved.
We should collect data on usage and demand before forking over that kind of money for a small subset of the town’s population.
In my ventures to Treadwell Park and Fairfield Hills, I have only seen players on rare occasions, so I’m not sure when this popular new sport is in such high demand.
At any rate, over a quarter million dollars could be much better spent on any number of needs (not wants), such as fuel and food for the neediest in town.
Pickleball can wait.
