Evading

Police report that at about 10:30 pm on April 9, they were called to the intersection of Bayberry Drive and Lantern Drive concerning a one-vehicle accident that had occurred there.

On arriving, the person who had been driving the vehicle involved in the crash was no longer at the accident scene, police report.

The accident scene held evidence indicating that the driver had been injured, police said.

Following an investigation, police located the driver in question — Andrew Brackett, 52, of 26 Botsford Hill Road — at his residence about 1.6 miles away.

Police said they charged Brackett with evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and driving with a suspended license. Police released Brackett on $2,500 nonsurety bail for an April 24 court appearance.

West Street

Police report that at about 7 pm on April 11, they stopped motorist Leslie Caplan, 43, of 35 West Street to investigate on West Street, near its intersection with Castle Hill Road.

Police said they charged Caplan with failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, driving under suspension, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Caplan was released on $100 bail for an April 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Property Damage

Police said they are investigating an incident in which an unknown motorist struck and damaged a curbside residential mailbox at a Great Ring Road property, near Sand Hill Road, and then drove away from the scene. Police believe the collision occurred late on Saturday, April 13, or early on Sunday, April 14. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station.

Queen Street

Sometime between 11 am and 12:30 pm on April 14, an unknown motorist struck the rear end of a blue Toyota Corolla sedan that was parked in the parking lot located between My Place Restaurant and the Bank of America on Queen Street, police report. The motorist then left the scene without reporting the collision. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Scott Smith at the police station.

Motorcycle Theft

Police are investigating the theft of a motorcycle that was parked in a driveway at 17-A Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

The theft occurred sometime between 3 pm on Saturday, April 13, and 4 am on Sunday, April 14. The vehicle stolen was a black 2006 Kawasaki with the model number 2X-636-C1. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact Officer John McDermott at the police station.

Highway Accident

At about 5:50 pm on April 11, motorist Tembisa Siduka, 28, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Audi A-4 eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, and then came to a stop due to heavy traffic, after which the Audi was struck from behind by motorist Durelle DeFranco, 71, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, state police report.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Blowout

State police said that motorist Aimee Ottaviano, 26, of Southbury was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 2:34 pm on April 9, when one of the vehicle’s tires had a blowout.

The Nissan went out of control and then struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said. There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement.

DUI Warrant

Police report they charged a local man on a warrant on April 13 in connection with an accident that occurred last August 18.

Police said they charged Kevin Leibold, 20, of 7 Steck Drive with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and making a restricted turn.

Police said that at about 7:30 am on August 18, they received a report about an accident having occurred near 28 Birch Hill Road.

Through an investigation, police determined that Steck had been driving a 1999 Dodge SUV northward on Birch Hill Road, north of its intersection with Cannon Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the right road shoulder, dislodging an about 100-foot-long section of gaurdcabling.

The Dodge then traveled down an embankment and rolled onto its left side, coming to rest against some trees, police said.

Police said they located Leibold walking in the area near Cannon Drive about three hours after the accident, after which he was transported to Danbury Hospital.

Leibold posted $100 bail on April 13 for an April 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Chevy Vs Honda

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 10:22 pm on April 8 near 26 Horseshoe Ridge Road, police report.

Police said that motorist Stephen Kostes, 22, of 16 Old Farm Hill Road was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze northward on Horseshoe Ridge Road, when the Chevrolet collided with an unoccupied 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan that was parked facing southward in the northbound lane.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kostes an infraction for making a restricted turn. Police said that they verbally warned Honda owner Kirsten Kirkman of 49 Horseshoe Ridge Road for improper parking.

Knife Found

Police report that on April 15 a folding-style pocket knife was found along Canterbury Lane in Sandy Hook. Police are holding the knife for safekeeping. The owner may contact police to claim the knife.

Juvenile Charged

Police report that they were called to Cherry Street about 10:30 pm on April 14 to handle a dispute. After investigating, police charged a person under age 18 with disorderly conduct. The youth was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 6. Police did not disclose the person’s identity because he/she is under age 18.

Car Off Road

Motorist S. Sebastian, 38, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Honda Civic sedan northward on South Main Street about 6 pm on April 14, when the vehicle went out of control and traveled off the right road shoulder, crossing the front yard at 235 South Main Street, police said. The Honda then hit a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Sebastian received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Ford Vs Toyota

At about 3:47 pm on April 15, motorist Jan Norman Brill, 52, of 8 Ironwood Drive, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan westward on Church Hill Road, stopped for a red traffic signal at Church Hill Road’s intersection with Queen Street, police said.

Motorist Lisa Cox, 53, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Ford Expedition SUV, then stopped behind the Toyota, police said.

Cox’s foot then inadvertently hit the Ford’s accelerator pedal, resulting in the Ford striking the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

Police said they issued Cox an infraction for unsafe movement.
