DUI Charge

Police report that at about 10:38 pm on August 14, they spotted a motorist traveling westward on Church Hill Road who drove onto a sidewalk along the westbound road shoulder, so they stopped that driver on nearby Edmond Road to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Christine Risoli, 44, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with making an improper turn. After processing, police released Risoli on $250 bail for an August 28 court appearance.

Two DUIs

Police report they responded at about 6:59 pm on August 12 to an auto accident that occurred near the intersection of Hattertown Road and Wiley Lane.

After investigating, police charged motorist Kenneth Berry, 53, of Newtown with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and failure to keep to the right on a curve or at an intersection.

Additionally, police learned that they held a warrant for Berry in connection with a September 3, 2017, incident. Police charged Berry with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right.

Police held Berry on $1,000 bail overall for an August 13 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury. In court, Berry pleaded not guilty to all six charges. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 10.

SUV Vs Fence

Motorist Mauricio Bermello-Bravo, 36, of Danbury, was driving a 2006 Hyundai Tucson SUV westward on Wasserman Way, about 200 feet east of its intersection with Mile Hill Road South, amid slick road conditions at about 7:11 pm on August 11, when a westbound vehicle traveling in front of the Hyundai braked, police said.

Bermello-Bravo also braked, but he lost control of the SUV, and it struck some curbing along the right road shoulder, after which, it struck some fencing at the Reed Intermediate School grounds. The Hyundai kept traveling until it came to rest against a large wooden post that blocks access to the turnaround circle at the end of Old Farm Road, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bermello-Bravo an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Interstate Crash

At about 1:07 pm on August 10, motorist Amber Lee Hawkes, 25, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, hit the rear end of a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Aaron Russell, 42, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Hawkes a misdemeanor summons on charges of following too closely and failure to have automotive insurance.

Honda Vs Honda

Police said that at about 3:52 pm on August 10, motorist David Mercier, 18, of New Milford, was driving a 2015 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Pole Bridge Road. Mercier then braked in heavy traffic, after which the CR-V was struck from behind by an eastbound 2003 Honda Accord sedan driven by Clint Stergue, 19, of Sandy Hook.

There were no injuries. Police issued Stergue an infraction for following too closely.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision occurred about 3:58 pm on August 10 on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exit 10 and Exit 11.

Motorist Peter Hill, 66, of Tolland, who was driving a 2017 Ford Taurus sedan, slowed for traffic conditions, after which motorist Megan Murrin, 26, of Dunmore, Penn., who was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler SUV, slowed behind the Ford, state police said.

Motorist Molly Simmons, 18, of Canaan, who was driving a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, then struck the rear end of the Jeep, pushing the Jeep into the rear end of the Ford. There were no injuries. Simmons received a written warning for following too closely.

Exit 9 Off-Ramp

Motorist Christopher Gindraux, 29, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion, stopped at a stop sign at the end of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp about 10:17 am on August 9 and was then struck from behind by motorist Corradina Carpano, 52, of Bedford, N.Y., state police said. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Carpano for following too closely.

Main Street Crash

At about 5:56 pm on August 8, motorist Ann Zachos, 53, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Honda Civic auto southward near 19 Main Street, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Michael Reyes, 31, of Pittsfield, Mass., who was driving a 2013 Audi A-6 auto, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Reyes for following too closely.

iPhone Found

Police said this week that on August 1, a white Apple iPhone was found at The Toy Tree, 14 Church Hill Road. The owner may claim the device by identifying it. Police, who are holding the smartphone for safekeeping, said the owner should contact Officer Steven Siecienski at the police station at 203-426-5841.
