DUI Charge

Police report that at about 2:53 am on August 26, they spotted motorist Cyntha Gill, 33, of Beauford, S.C., asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in front of a closed business on Tinkerfield Road, so they investigated. Police said they charged Gill with driving under the influence. After processing, Gill was released on $100 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on September 13.

BMW Into Rails

Motorist Elizabeth Tecza, 38, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2011 BMW 328-XI sedan westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 10:52 am on August 26, drifted onto the highway’s left road shoulder and then struck some guardrailing, state police report.

Tecza received minor injuries and declined medical treatment. Tecza was verbally warned for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Interstate Crash

State police report that while traveling in heavy traffic at about 8:32 pm on August 26, on eastbound Interstate 84, about 2,000 feet west of Exit 10, motorist Jose Illescas-Tucto, 32, of Torrington, who was driving a 2010 Honda auto, struck the rear end of a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan driven by Thomas Warren, 54, of Norfolk, Mass. There were no injuries.

DUI Incident

Police report that during a paving project at about 10 pm on August 26 on Wasserman Way, near Mile Hill Road South, they charged motorist Michael Brennan, 63, of Sandy Hook with driving under the influence in a construction zone and also with failure to obey a police officer’s signal to stop in a construction zone.

After arrest processing, Brennan was released and is scheduled for arraignment on September 11 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Arrest

Police report they spotted a motorist driving erratically near 39 Main Street about 1:40 am on August 25, so they stopped the driver to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Peter Tomasulo, 65, of Newtown with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to comply with State Traffic Commission regulations. After processing, Tomasulo was released on $100 bail for a September 12 court appearance.

Motorcycle Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a hybrid auto about 9:05 am on August 24 at the intersection of Dodgingtown Road and Shelly Road in Dodgingtown.

Motorist Francisco Rojas-Valerio, 51, of Bethel, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius, made a left turn in front of motorcyclist Shawn Butler, 59, of Newtown, who was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Rojas-Valerio for failure to grant the right of way.

Berkshire Collision

Police said that at about 10:44 am on August 24, motorist Jolene Risko, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV westward on Berkshire Road, about 300 feet east of its intersection with Wasserman Way, struck a westbound 2011 BMW 326-XI sedan driven by Caitlyn Greenspan, 16, of Sandy Hook.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Toyota Vs Honda

Motorist Milinda Day, 54, of Stratford, who was driving a 2009 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Interstate 84, about 250 feet west of the Exit 9 off-ramp, at about 3:22 pm on August 24, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist David Harris, 57, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Harris received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Mazda Strikes Barrier

Motorist Celina Fallis, 33, of Newtown was driving a 2015 Mazda 6 sedan southward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Covered Bridge Road, about 3:32 pm on August 23, when the auto crossed the road’s center line and then struck a cable-and-post barrier along the left road shoulder, police said.

Fallis explained that she had looked away from the road before the accident occurred. There were no injuries. The incident is under investigation.

DUI Arrest

Police report they saw motorist Roland C. Long III, 63, of Newtown drive straight through a left-turn-only lane on westbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Commerce Road at about 8:43 pm on August 22.

Police said that as Long continued driving westward, he was weaving within his travel lane. Police stopped Long in a commercial parking lot 6 Queen Street to investigate and charged Long with driving under the influence and with failure to obey traffic signs/markings.

Long was released on $100 bail for a September 6 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Rear-End Crash

Police said that at about 6:04 pm on August 20, on eastbound Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Commerce Road, a 2016 GMC Arcadia SUV driven by Genevieve Murray, 16, of Newtown, struck the rear end of a 2013 Chevrolet Express G-1500 van driven by Franklin Trujilloquijano, 50, of Shelton.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Murray for following too closely.

Porsche Hits Mack

At about 9:30 pm on August 20 on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, motorist Nicholas Krukovsky, 42, of Hardyston, N.J., who was driving a 2009 Porsche Boxster roadster, made an improper lane change, state police said. The Porsche had cut into a travel lane and sideswiped a 2001 Mack CH-61 heavy dump truck driven by Daniel Smith, 48, of Naugatuck.

There were no injuries. Both vehicles were damaged by the impact. State police said Krukovsky illegally cut into a traffic lane within a construction zone.

Toddy Hill Road

At about 12:02 pm on August 18, motorist Jaclyn Baia, 35, of Shelton, who was driving a 2010 Nissan Sentra auto southward on Toddy Hill Road, near Turkey Roost Road, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Matthew Politi, 25, of Easton, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, according to police.

Baia was checked by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but refused further assistance. Police verbally warned Politi for following too closely.

Sedan Vs SUV

About 2:51 pm on August 18, motorist Rachel Heggland, 37, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ SUV northward on South Main Street, stopped for a traffic signal at that road’s intersection with Mile Hill Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Flora Rosa, 27, of Oakville, who was driving a 2015 Lexus IS-250 sedan, then struck the rear end of the Chevrolet. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked a small child passenger in the Chevrolet at the accident scene. Rosa was verbally warned for following too closely.

VW Hits Jeep

About 9:49 am on August 12, motorist Ryan McNerney, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, slowed in preparing to turn left onto Lone Oak Meadows Road, after which motorist Cassandra Brown, 30, of Shelton, who was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, struck the rear end of the Jeep, police said.

Brown received a minor injury, according to police. Brown was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hawleyville volunteer firefighters worked at a three-vehicle collision that occurred near 170 Mt Pleasant Road about 1 pm on August 28. Police said all vehciles were traveling eastward when the incident occurred. Motorist Soon Kim, 84, of Newtown, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Forester SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, after wgiuch motosiusr Ryan Roche, 31, of Shelton, who was driving a 2018 Mistusbishi Outlander SUV, stopped bnehind the Subaru, police said. A 2013 Volvo 60-XC SUV driven by Elizabeth Keating, 62, of Newtown, then struck the reart emnd if the Mitsusbushi, pushing the Mitsubishi into the rear end of the Subaru, police said. Keating received a suspected minor injury, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the incident.
