Road Rage

State police report a traveling road rage incident on westbound Interstate 84 about 10:58 am on December 11, which started near Exit 10 in Newtown and ended in Danbury. During the incident, motorist Nelson Carrion, 19, of Bridgeport brandished an imitation firearm at a 55-year-old male driver. State police said that Danbury police helped them stop Carrion, after which state police investigated the incident. Carrion was charged with second-degree breach of peace, carrying a dangerous weapon, driving with a suspended license, and possession of narcotics.

He was released on $2,500 non-surety bail for a December 20 court appearance.

Intersection Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the four-way intersection of The Boulevard and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 5:07 pm on December 12. Each leg of that intersection is controlled by a stop sign. The accident involved motorist Beth Ann Salaris, 54, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Toyota Highlander SUV, and motorist Christie Caruso, 31, of Sandy Hook, who was driving 2018 Mazda 3 auto.

Police said that the drivers provided them with written statements that included contradictory claims on who had the right of way before the collision occurred. There were no injuries.

Police issued Caruso a misdemeanor summons on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

SUV Vs SUV

Motorist Suzanne Arnone, 60, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Toyota RAV-4 SUV southward on South Main Street about 5:10 pm on December 12, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into the driveway for 153 South Main Street, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by 2005 Jeep Liberty SUV driven by Linda Benzinger, 60, of Newtown, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Benzinger an infraction for following too closely.

Interstate DUI

State police report they spotted motorist Fred Ames, 51, of Seymour driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 1:02 am on December 13. State police stopped Ames to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Following processing, Ames was released from custody on $1,000 non-surety bail for a January 8 court appearance.

U-Turn

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 5:37 pm on December 13, police said. There were no injuries.

In that incident, a 2013 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by Joseph Lamanna, 18, of Newtown was struck by a 2005 Subaru Legacy sedan, which was making a U-turn at the intersection. The Subaru was driven by motorist Gary Tepper, 36, of Bethel, who received an infraction for unsafe movement, according to police.

Freightliner Hits Volvo

State police report that at about 5:40 pm on December 13, trucker Juan Velez, 37, of Hartford, who was driving a 2018 Freightliner truck on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, made a lane change and struck a 2011 Volvo XC-60 SUV driven by Mary Borden, 60, of Farmington.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Velez for failure to maintain the proper lane.

DUI Charge

Police report they received a call about 5:52 pm on December 13 reporting that a vehicle had stopped in the middle of the roadway near 63 South Main Street, so they responded to investigate. After finding the vehicle in question, police investigated and charged motorist Jerman Ortega, 31, of Norwalk with driving under the influence and with possession of narcotics.

After processing, police released Ortega on $5,000 surety bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Honda Vs Peterbilt

At about 8:19 pm on December 13 on Interstate 84’s combined Exit 11 on-ramp, motorist Kirin Eckert, 34, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey minivan, changed lanes and struck a 2014 Peterbilt truck driven by Timothy Horn, 52, of Ixonia, Wisc., state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Eckert for making an unsafe lane change.

Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Pole Bridge Road about 7:40 am on December 14. Motorists involved in that accident were Loren Recio, 48, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2000 Lexus RX-300 SUV, and motorist Venessa Hill, 28, of West Haven, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Impreza auto.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Recio for failure to grant the right of way.

Pickup Vs Sedan

At about 9:44 am on December 14, motorist Katelyn Ruelle, 23, of Terryville was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata sedan southward on South Main Street, near Elm Drive, when motorist Thomas Betkoski, 56, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, entered the street from a driveway, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Betkoski received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI Arrest

Police said they responded to the area of 35 Main Street after receiving a report about 9:53 pm on December 14 that a four-vehicle accident had occurred there.

Motorist Christian Klein, 22, of Newtown was driving a Jeep Cherokee SUV southward on Main Street, when Klein traveled to right and struck a parked Honda Accord, pushing the Honda into a parked Lexus ES-350 sedan. The Jeep then struck a parked Subaru Legacy sedan, police said. There were no injuries.

The Jeep, Honda, and Subaru received extensive damage and had to be towed away. Police said that after investigating, they charged Klein with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Following arrest processing, police released Klein on $100 bail for a December 28 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Berkshire DUI

Police report that at about 5:37 pm on December 17, they received a call informing them of a motorist driving erratically westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Great Quarter Road. Police went to Berkshire Road and located the erratically moving vehicle in question, stopping it near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Sherman Street to investigate.

They charged motorist Jeffrey Mills, 68, of Shelton, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Following arrest processing, police released Mills on $100 bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Traffic Stop

Police said they stopped motorist Juan Flores, 35, of West Haven, about 10:38 pm on December 18 to investigate, near 51 Berkshire Road.

After investigating, police charged Flores with driving under suspension and with an automotive equipment violation.

After additional investigation, police charged Flores on a pending warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident. Police released Flores on $500 bail for a January 8 court appearance.
