Honda Vs Tree

Motorist Dayna Samela, 28, of Naugatuck, was driving a 2012 Honda Civic westward on Route 302 and then entered a curve to the left near Floral Heights Road, when she lost control of the vehicle and then slid off the right road shoulder, striking a tree at about 4:56 pm on January 6, according to police.

There were no injuries. Samela received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Drug Charges

Police said they responded to a Botsford residence at about 12:39 pm on January 5, after learning that a dispute had occurred there. Police said that after investigating, they charged James Brown, 20, of that residence, with possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana and with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

After arrest processing, Brown posted $500 bail for a January 23 court appearance.

Broken Windshield

Motorist Brian Fisher, 23, of Woodbury, was driving a 2005 Mazda 3 auto westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 3:28 pm on January 5, when a piece of ice/snow that was positioned on a 2012 Freightliner truck driven by Garth Thomas, 44, of Whitehall, Penn., fell off the Freightliner and then smashed into the Mazda's windshield, shattering the glass, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Thomas an infraction for failure to remove ice/snow from a commercial vehicle.

Boggs Hill Collision

Motorist Cristian Pierson, 37, of Newtown, who was driving a 1997 Toyota RAV-4 SUV northward on Boggs Hill Road, about 200 feet north of its intersection with Palestine Road, at about 4:15 pm on January 5, was negotiating a curve to the left, but struck a snowbank and then hit a tree along the right road shoulder, police said.

There were no injuries. Pierson received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions,.

Evading

Police report that following a motor vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, near Ardi Court, at about 5:52 pm on January 5, they investigated and later charged Blanca Guzman, 64, of Sandy Hook, with evading responsibility with a motor vehicle and with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Police said they released Guzman on a written promise to appear in court on January 23.

Highway Incident

State police said that at about 7:55 pm on January 5, they received a report about a one-car accident having occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, after which they responded to investigate.

Motorist Brian Miele, 49, of New Milford had been driving a 1999 Honda Accord that went out of control on the slippery road and then spun out, striking some guardcabling along the right road shoulder. Miele then exited the Honda and walked away from the accident, state police. Miele was later found in Newtown and arrested on charges of failure to drive in the proper lane, evading responsibility with a motor vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving a vehicle with a driver's license or a vehicle registration that is refused, suspended, or revoked. Miele posted $2,000 bail and was released for a January 18 court appearance, state police report.

Highway Collision

Amid icy road conditions at about 8:32 pm on January 5, motorist Mersin Ajazi, 24, of Morris, who was driving a 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-230 sedan, slowed for traffic conditions on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, and was then struck from behind by motorist Jessica Pacheco, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Pacheco received a misdemeanor summons for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and failure to have automotive insurance. The charges require a court appearance.

Honda Hits Hyundai

At about 8:53 pm on January 5, on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, during congested conditions, motorist Christopher Fagan, 38, of Prospect, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, slowed for traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Michael Vatis, 54, of New York City, who was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey carrying five passengers, state police said.

Vatis received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.

Wasserman Way

At the start of a snowstorm at about 7:35 am on January 4, motorist Bridgette Gaillard, 49, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 SUV eastward on Wasserman Way, near Nunnawauk Road, lost control of the auto and then crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with a westbound 2007 Kia Rondo hatchback driven by Christine Metzger, 52, of Sandy Hook, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Gaillard for traveling too fast for conditions.

Botsford Crash

At about 6:55 am on January 3, motorist Maria Silva, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 2014 Ford Escape northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan lane, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Amanda Lopez, 27, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Lopez received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Honda Crash

Police report that motorist Raymond Grullon, 32, of Ansonia, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic westward on Mile Hill Road, just west of its intersection with Mile Hill Road South, at about 7:12 am on January 3, when he lost control of the auto on a curve and then drove off the right road shoulder, going through a wooden post-and-cable safety barrier.

Grullon exited the auto just before the vehicle slid down an embankment and struck a tree, police said. There were no injuries. Grullon was verbally warned for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hawleyville Accident

State police report that motorist Elizabeth Masi, 41, of Southbury, who was driving a 2015 Ford Escape SUV, stopped at the stop sign at the end of westbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp, at about 8:40 pm on January 3, and was then struck from behind by motorist Carol Ann Ralston, 49, of New Milford, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Ralston for following too closely.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road, just west the Exit 10 ramps for eastbound Interstate 84, at about 4:21 pm on January 2.

In that incident, motorist Aliya Hamilton, 24, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima, was traveling in a right-turn-only lane and then started to pass on the right eastbound motorist John Morgan, 58, of Southampton, N.J., who was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck in a straight-ahead lane, police said.

In attempting to pass the GMC, the Nissan swerved and struck the GMC, after which the Nissan left the scene, police said. There were no injuries. Hamilton, who was driving the Nissan, was later found, police said.

Hamilton received a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility and for failure to maintain the proper lane, requiring that she appear in court.

Glover Avenue

Police report that at about 10:21 am on December 30, motorist Henry Lemien, 58, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2012 Dodge Durango SUV westward on Glover Avenue, stopped at a red traffic signal. Westbound motorist Scott Sigmund, 41, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla sedan, attempted to stop, but slid on the snowy roadway and struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sigmund for traveling too fast for conditions.

Nissan Vs Ford

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Mile Hill Road South, about 250 feet north of its intersection with Timber Lane, about 11:24 am on December 30. In that incident, motorist Emily Rhew, 24, of Newtown was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue SUV southward, as driver Stephen Zuber, 63, of Huntington, was driving a town-owned 2017 Ford Explorer SUV northward, police said.

The Nissan then started sliding on the snowy/icy roadway and entered the opposite lane, colliding with the Ford.

Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident. There were no injuries. Rhew was verbally warned for traveling too fast for conditions, police report.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 9:56 pm on December 29, they received a call of a motorist driving erratically near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Queen Street.

Police said that after finding the vehicle in question, they stopped it and investigated, charging motorist Mitchell Milardo, 25, of Danbury with driving under the influence and with interfering with police.

Following arrest processing, police released Milardo on a written promise to appear on January 18 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
