Auto Theft

Police report they received a call about 7:40 am on February 25 informing them that a parked vehicle had been stolen overnight from a residential driveway on Autumn Ridge Road, a short dead-end street that extends from Butterfield Road.

The black 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-550 4-Matic sedan was unlocked and had its keys inside it when it was stolen.

Later that morning, the stolen vehicle was located in Danbury. Police collected evidence from the vehicle, which had received some damage after the theft. Police then returned the Mercedes to its owner. The case is under investigation.

In light of a recent rash of auto thefts, police have repeatedly urged vehicle owners not to leave the ignition keys inside their vehicles and to lock the vehicles when unattended.

Passing Violation

Police report that motorist Sanjeet Singh Sethi, 51, of Trumbull, illegally passed a vehicle near the intersection of South Main Street and Main Street at about 12:14 pm on February 25, after which they stopped him near 3 Church Hill Road to investigate.

Police issued Sethi a misdemeanor summons on charges of passing in a no-passing zone and driving while under suspension. Sethi was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Wedding Ring

Police report that on February 23, a man’s wedding ring was found in the men’s restroom at Dunkin’ Donuts at Newtown Shopping Village, 6 Queen Street. The ring’s owner may contact Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the ring.

Interstate Crash

About 3:58 pm on February 22 on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, a 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Jessica Casey, 33, of Fremont, N.H., struck the rear end of a 2008 BMW X-5 SUV driven by Shari Hull, 58, of Southbury, state police report.

There were no injuries. Casey received an infraction for following too closely.

Icy Roadway

Police report that motorist Kieng Hin, 58, of Newtown was driving a 2010 Acura MDX SUV eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, near the bridge that crosses over the Housatonic Railroad’s tracks, at about 1:09 am on February 21.

During rain and amid icy road conditions, the SUV then drove off the right road shoulder and struck a guardrail, police said. There were no injuries.

Wood Chipper Incident

State police report that at about 2:03 pm on February 21, Obdulio Morales-Leon, 33, of Cockeysville, Md., was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck westward, east of Exit 9, and was hauling a wood chipper.

The driver lost control of the truck. The wood chipper then detached from the truck, and it struck some guardrailing on the highway median. There were no injuries. State police issued Morales-Leon an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane and for driving with an unsecured load.

Two Charges

Police report that at about 6:09 pm on February 21, they stopped motorist David Eisenbach, 51, of Southbury near 216 South Main Street to investigate.

Police charged Eisenbach with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving without automotive insurance. Eisenbach was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 7 to answer the charges.

Mercedes Vs Ford

At about 6:13 pm on February 21, a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C-320 sedan that was being driven northward on Mount Pleasant Road, near its northern intersection with Johnnie Cake Lane, by motorist Werner Matheis, 84, of New Fairfield, sideswiped a northbound 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Daniel Pace, 45, of Wading River, N.Y., police said.

There were no injuries. Matheis received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Great Quarter Crash

About 10:12 am on February 20, motorist Manuel Vincente Uzhca-Urgilez, 41, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Forester SUV westward on Great Quarter Road, about 500 feet west of its intersection with Andras Road, lost control, drove off the road, hit a tree stump, and then rolled over, police said.

The driver received some minor hand cuts. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded. The driver received a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane. (A photo of this accident appeared in the February 22 print edition of The Newtown Bee).

Following Too Closely

Police report that at about 2:09 pm on February 20, motorist Ralph Simpson, 25, of Milford, who was driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre sedan northward near 111 South Main Street, slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Buick was struck from behind by a northbound 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by Andrew Barer, 56, of Easton.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Barer for following too closely.

South Main Street

Police said that after learning of a pending arrest warrant, they stopped motorist Ponny Kom, 26, of New Milford near 71 South Main Street at about 10:51 pm on February 20.

Police charged Kom with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past Brookfield incident which involved Kom allegedly driving with a suspended license. Kom was released on $1,000 bail for a March 7 court appearance.

Drug Arrest

Police report that while on patrol at about 7:27 pm on February 20, they stopped motorist Zachary Cyr, 19, of Trumbull to investigate near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Mile Hill Road South.

Police charged Cyr with possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana. Cyr is scheduled for a March 5 court appearance on the charge.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Obtuse Road, about 7:19 am on February 13. The collision involved a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Luke Dingee, 30, of New Milford and a 1995 Toyota Tercel auto driven by Thomas Buccieri, 38, of New Milford. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Dingee for improper passing.

Slippery Surface

After traveling downhill on a snowy Osborn Hill Road about 12:52 pm on February 13, motorist Lauren Frazzetta, 23, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima, slid through the intersection of Osborn Hill Road and Bennetts Bridge Road, police said.

The auto then skidded off the roadway and struck a utility pole. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Frazzetta for traveling too fast for conditions.
