Audi Vs Guard Cables

Police report that at about 6:40 pm on August 21, motorist Hannah Lee, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 2018 Audi Q-7 Premium Plus SUV, exited the driveway at 235 South Main Street and then made a right turn to head northward on that road. Lee, however, looked away from the road, after which the vehicle went off the right side of the street and struck some guard cabling, damaging multiple sections of that safety barrier, police said. The impact caused heavy damage to the SUV. Lee reported pain but refused medical attention. Lee received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane, police report.

Vandalism/Alcohol

Police said that at about 10:46 pm on August 21, they responded to investigate a report of a group of people acting in a disorderly manner and damaging property near the intersection of Old Green Road and Horseshoe Ridge Road. Police said they found a group of people, all of whom were under age 21, walking along Horseshoe Ridge Road. Police said that some members of the group had damaged curbside residential mailboxes and some members were in illegal possession of alcohol.

Police report they charged Matthew Chiota, 18, and John Lucas, 18, both of Fairfield, with third-degree criminal mischief. Also, police said they issued violations to Christopher Duffy, 18, of Trumbull, and Sean Lynch, 18, of Fairfield, for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. A vandalism damage value estimate was not available.

Emergency 911 Call

Police report they received an Emergency 911 call from Deborah Clark, 59, of Newtown stating that there was a home invasion in progress occurring her residence at about 12:33 pm on August 19.

Numerous police officers responded to her home and determined that there had been a verbal disagreement there, not a home invasion, police said. After investigating, police charged Clark with misuse of the Emergency 911 system and with second-degree falsely reporting an incident, police said.

After processing, Clark was released on $1,000 bail for an August 30 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 1:06 am on August 18, they spotted a motorist drive over the street’s center line on Bennetts Farms Road, so they stopped the vehicle to investigate on nearby Bresson Farm Road.

Police said they charged motorist Michael Shevlin, 26, of Sandy Hook with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving while under suspension. Following arrest processing, police released Shevlin on $100 bail for an August 31 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Sedan Vs Sedan

About 2:09 am on August 18 on westbound Interstate 84, roughly 250 feet east of the Exit 11 off-ramp, a 2007 Subaru Legacy sedan driven by Rashawn Arnold, 33, of Waterbury, allegedly struck the rear end of a 2008 Chrysler 300 sedan driven by Jason Hamuka, 45, of Naugatuck, state police said.

The Chrysler then struck some guard cabling on the highway median. There were no injuries. State police said that conflicting statements from the two drivers and a lack of physical evidence resulted in no determination of fault and no enforcement action.

I-84 Crash

While traveling on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, at about 12:07 pm on August 18, motorist Sarah Fishtein, 36, of Jersey City, N.J., who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy sedan, struck the rear end of a 2018 Subaru WRX sports car driven by Barbara Jarnigan, 54, of Niantic, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Fishtein an infraction for following too closely.

Intersection Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 6:35 pm on August 18.

In that incident, motorist Jake Buckley, 21, of Bethel, who was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, struck a 2016 Infiniti QX-60 SUV driven by Kimberly Calbo, 52, of Newtown, according to police. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Buckley for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Truck Vs SUV

At about 1:41 pm on August 17, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way in Sandy Hook.

In that incident, a 2012 Nissan NV commercial truck driven by Pedro Laureano, 25, of Waterbury, struck the rear end of a 2006 Kia Sportage SUV driven by Diane Skuba, 66, of Newtown, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Laureano for following too closely.

South Main DUI

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 282 South Main Street about 2:11 pm on August 17.

The accident involved motorist Paula King, 55, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV, and motorist Karl Sieling, Jr, 27, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, police said. There were no injuries.

Police that after investigating the collision, they charged King with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Following processing, King posted $500 bail and was released for an August 30 court appearance.

Debris Hits Honda

State police report that at about 3:57 pm on August 16 on westbound Interstate 84, some debris fell off a 1989 Peterbilt Conventional truck driven by Dominick Picchione, 50, of New Milford and then struck and damaged the windshield of a 2013 Honda Civic auto driven by Jason Petraitis, 24, of Woodbury. There were no injuries.

State police said they warned Picchione for having an unsecured load and for driving with an obscured marker plate.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that about 6:22 pm on August 16, trucker Richard Chockey, 50, of Monroe was driving a 2003 Mack CV-700 heavy truck, which is owned by a Westport paving company, northward on Washbrook Road.

Chockey attempted to make a right turn to enter Kay Lane, but missed that turn and then drove onto the front lawn at 4 Kay Lane, police said. Chockey then hit a tree, continued traveling across the front yard, drove across both lanes of Kay Lane, and then came to rest on Kay Lane’s road shoulder. Chockey then backed up and drove away from the area, police report. There were no injuries.

Police said they later found Chockey and investigated, lodging charges of evading responsibility and making a restricted turn. Police released Chockey on a written promise to appear in court to answer the charges on August 28.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 1:34 pm on August 15 on Wasserman Way near its intersection with the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84.

Motorist Scott Williams, 61, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer SUV, struck the rear end of a 2012 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Susanne Kvech, 54, of Maplewood, N.J., police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Williams for following too closely.

South Main Crash

At about 4:42 pm on July 30, motorist Margaret Choiniere, 53, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward near 71 South Main Street amid heavy traffic, was struck from behind by a northbound 2015 Subaru Impreza driven by Michael Ferro, 23, of Shelton, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Choiniere to Danbury Hospital on a report of pain, according to police. Police issued Ferro an infraction for following too closely.
