Four MV Charges

After learning that Newtown Police held a warrant against him, Robert Zielinski, 26, of Waterbury went to the police station at about 4:20 pm on August 1 and was then charged with making a restricted turn, misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance, police said.

The charges stem from a serious April 12 motor vehicle accident that occurred on South Main Street, near its intersection with Prospect Drive, Peck’s Lane, and Appleblossom Lane.

In that incident, Zielinski was driving a 1993 Honda Civic sedan southward on South Main Street. Trucker Jose Rivera, 36, of Bridgeport was driving a 2007 International box truck northward on South Main Street.

The Honda then crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the truck. Hook & Ladder and Botsford firefighters extricated Zielinski from the Honda.

Ambulance volunteers then transported Zielinski to Danbury Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to police. Rivera was transported to Bridgeport Hospital to be checked for pain, according to police.

Following his arrest processing on August 1, police released Zielinski from custody on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on August 15.

Barn Burglary

Police report a burglary into a barn at a private home on Mile Hill Road South.

Police said that sometime on the evening of August 2, someone made a forced entry through the barn’s front doors and then stole a portable air compressor from the building.

Evading Responsibility

At about 11 am on July 30, a male field technician working for Charter Communications had parked a company truck on Hanover Road, near the Interstate 84 overpasses, and was positioned up on a utility pole doing some cable television work, when an unknown black pickup truck, which was traveling northward on Hanover Road, made physical contact with the left exterior rear-view mirror on the Charter truck, police report. The pickup truck’s driver then drove away from the scene, police said.

The technician was not injured. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station.

SUV Vs SUV

Police report that at about 10:15 am on July 31, motorist GE Leinweaver, 45, of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Ford SUV that was carrying four passengers southward near 103 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Robert Cole, 38, of Torrington, who was driving a 2011 Jeep SUV.

Cole received a minor injury, police said. Police said they issued Cole an infraction for following too closely.

Highway Mishap

State police report that at about 11:12 pm on August 2, trucker Kenneth Michaelson, 56, of Hillsborough, N.J., was driving a 2003 Freightliner FD-1 heavy truck on Interstate 84 near Exit 11, when a tire tread fell off one of the truck’s drive wheels and then landed on the highway behind the traveling truck.

Motorist Kim-Elizabeth Forster, 47, of Oxford, who was driving a 2013 Mazda 3 auto behind the truck, could not avoid the tire debris and then struck the tire tread, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Vandalism

Police are investigating vandalism on Avalon Way, a residential dead-end street that extends from High Bridge Road near the Monroe town line.

Police report that sometime between 5 pm on August 1, and 7 am on August 2, someone vandalized two curbside residential mailboxes causing an estimated $400 worth of property damage.

Eichler’s Cove

Someone sometime overnight on July 31–August 1 entered the town-owned Eichler’s Cove park/marina off Old Bridge Road at Lake Zoar and vandalized public property there, police said.

The vandal or vandals sawed off the top section of a lifeguard chair and removed that chair section from the area. Also, two portable toilets were knocked over.

Police ask persons with knowledge of the vandals to contact them at the police station.

Palestine Road

Police report that at about 7:20 pm on August 5, they spotted motorist Timothy Adams, 23, of Danbury fail to stop at a stop sign on Palestine Road at its intersection with Boggs Hill Road, so they stopped Adams to investigate.

Police said they charged Adams with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving with suspended license. Adams was released on $2,500 bail for an August 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer those two charges, police said.

Also, Newtown police learned that New Milford police held two pending arrest warrants against Adams in connection with past incidents in New Milford.

Thus, police additionally charged Adams with four counts of second-degree failure to appear in court and with one count each of driving under suspension, failure to have automotive insurance, misuse of marker plates, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Concerning those eight charges, police released Adams on $5,000 bail for an August 12 appearance in Bantam Superior Court.

Mischief

Police said that at about 1 am on August 2, someone removed two signs from a package store at Plaza South at 266 South Main Street and then placed those signs on a residential lawn on Queen Street.

Also placed on that lawn were signs from other locations, as well as some traffic cones, police report.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Man Charged

Police report that they responded to a motor vehicle accident near 46 Church Hill Road about 4:46 pm on August 2.

After investigating, police said they charged motorist Adam Pratt, 25, of 44 Glen Road with driving with a suspended license and with failure to notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles about an address change.

Police released Pratt on a written promise to appear in court on August 15.

Vehicle Damaged

Police report that at about 2 am on August 2, someone using a shovel smashed in a passenger-side window on an unspecified parked motor vehicle at a Huntingtown Road property, near Cold Spring Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Truck Vs Pole

Police said motorist Nicholas Fadus, 19, of 5 Sunset Hill Road was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Boggs Hill Road, near Spring Road, about 6:09 pm on August 4, when he was attempting to read a text message.

Fadus lost control of the truck and it went off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fadus an infraction for making a restricted turn and for using a handheld electronic device while driving.

Berkshire Collision

A two-vehicle accident happened on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Nighthawk Lane, about 4:51 pm on August 5.

Police said that eastbound motorist Patricia Petronis, 37, of Oxford, who was driving a 2009 Dodge Avenger sedan, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Michael Kingston, 24, of Shelton, who was driving a 2002 Hyundai Accent coupe.

There were no injuries. Kingston received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
