Sandy Hook Center

At about 9:26 am on June 10, motorist Laura Callahan, 49, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer SUV eastward on Church Hill Road through Sandy Hook Center, became distracted and then drove into the rear end of a 2011 Honda CR-V SUV, which was parked in front of 98 Church Hill Road, according to police. There were no injuries.

Police issued Callahan a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license. Police also verbally warned her for failure to maintain position in the travel lane.

South Main Crash

About 1:30 pm on June 10, motorist Grace Ann Bohlander, 19, of Easton, who was driving a 2013 Honda Fit SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn to enter a commercial driveway at 123 South Main Street, police said.

Southbound motorist Mariann Adams, 60, of Newtown, who was driving a Chevrolet Suburban SUV, then struck the rear end of the Honda. There were no injuries. Police issued Adams a written warning for following too closely.

SUV vs SUV

State police described a collision involving two SUVs on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 4:23 pm on June 9.

In that incident, motorist Marijana Todosiev, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Audi Q-5, struck the rear end of a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Ruben Montes-Montes, 37, of New Milford. There were no injuries. State police said that Todosiev was following too closely.

Larceny

Police report that at about 8:48 pm on June 9, they received a call from the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street informing them that a theft had occurred at the store, so police went there to investigate.

After investigating, police charged store employee Robert Eisenhauer, 42, of Newtown with sixth-degree larceny. That charge reflects the alleged theft of items valued at less than $500.

After processing, police released Eisenhauer on a written promise to appear in court on June 26.

DUI Arrest

Police report they observed a vehicle traveling faster than the posted speed limit on Sugar Street about 9:03 pm on June 9, so they stopped it near the intersection of Glover Avenue and South Main Street to investigate.

Police charged motorist Steven Reilly, 51, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with traveling unreasonably fast.

Following arrest processing, Reilly was released from police custody on $100 bail for a June 26 court arraignment on the charges.

Jeep vs Jeep

At about 5:08 pm on June 8, motorist David Holway, 39, of Thomaston, who was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV at the northern end of Key Rock Road, was struck from behind by motorist Deborah Champion, 60, of Bristol, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Champion received a verbal warning for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

State police report that at about 9:15 pm on June 8, trucker Gregory Imler, 44, of Hamden, was driving a 2018 Mack truck in the center lane of three lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9.

At that time, motorist Aiden Peluso, 20, of Shelton, who was driving a 2001 Pontiac Firebird in the adjacent acceleration lane, unsafely merged and then struck the truck. Peluso was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Peluso received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane, according to state police.

Flagpole Intersection

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole intersection about 12:28 pm on June 7.

Motorist Jonathan Figueroa, 21, of Seymour was driving a 2015 GMC Terrain SUV southward on Main Street, while motorist Daniel Jopp, 55, of Newtown, who was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck, was waiting at a stop sign on westbound Church Hill Road. As the Ford then attempted to move westward across Main Street to reach West Street, the GMC passed a stopped noncontact vehicle on the right, after which the GMC struck the Ford.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Figueroa for passing on the right.

Three Pickups

An accident involving three pickup trucks occurred on Toddy Hill Road, just north of its intersection with Marlin Road, at about 12:54 pm on June 7.

All three vehicles had been traveling southward. A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jorge Santa, 56, of Monroe, stopped for traffic conditions, after which a 2018 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Joseph Farina, 37, of Milford, stopped behind the Chevrolet, police said. A 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Mark Kascak, 57, of Stratford, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of the Chevrolet.

Santa received minor injuries and refused medical attention. Kascak received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Highway Maneuver

Motorist Kimberley Homby, 53, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Acura TL sedan eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 5:02 pm on June 7, attempted to change lanes, but struck a 2013 Volvo vehicle driven by Angel Martinez-Marzan, 27, of Kissimmee, Fla., state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Homby for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Two Pickups

Two pickup trucks were involved in a collision about 5:22 pm on June 7 on South Main Street, near its intersection with Borough Lane.

In that incident, motorist Jacob Kaesmann, 25, of Shelton, who had been driving a 2008 Ford F-350 southward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a 2011 Nissan Frontier driven by motorist Monique Dubois, 19, of Sandy Hook, police said. There were no injuries.

Police verbally warned Dubois for following too closely, and verbally warned Kaesmann for failure to renew a vehicular registration.

Interstate Collision

About 5:33 pm on June 7, amid heavy traffic, motorist Kareem Grace, 28, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra auto eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, struck the rear end of a 2014 Honda CR-V SUV driven by motorist Robin Tolster, 52, address unreported. There were no injuries.

State police verbally warned Grace for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Probation Violation

Police report that on the evening of June 7, they arrested Leslie Caplan, 49, of Newtown, on a charge of violation of probation in connection with a past case. Police said that after locating Caplan at 8 Queen Street, they served an active warrant against her.

Caplan later pleaded not guilty in court to the probation charge. She is scheduled to return to court on July 16.

I-84 Accident

State police report that at about 6:46 am on June 6, motorist Lori Ann Hubina, 56, of Southbury, who was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V SUV on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, stopped due to traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Alexa Reed, 25, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic auto.

There were no injuries. Reed was verbally warned for following too closely.

South Main Crash

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident that occurred on South Main Street near its intersection with Button Shop Road about 4:17 pm on June 5.

Motorist Richard Frankonis, 75, of Newtown, was driving a 2015 Volvo XC-60 SUV northward on South Main Street, as motorist George Franz, 79, of Newtown was driving a 2011 Buick Regal sedan southward there. The Buick then entered the opposite lane and struck the Volvo, police report. The Volvo carried a passenger.

All three people were transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be treated for injuries.

Police issued Franz a misdemeanor summons for failure to maintain the travel lane, failure to have automotive insurance, and for driving with a suspended registration.

Sedan vs Sedan

Motorist Chadrick Ashley, 28, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry sedan northward on Wasserman Way about 4:58 pm on June 5, struck the rear end of a northbound a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-300 sedan driven by Vera Grimes, 64, of Hamden, police said.

The collision occurred near Wasserman Way's intersection with Berkshire Road. Stony Hill Volunteer Ambulance transported Grimes to Danbury Hospital. Police verbally warned Ashley for following too closely.

Rear-Ender

Police report that at about 3:58 pm on June 4, motorist Austin Warner 66, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Cadillac Escalade SUV westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at that road's intersection with westbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 on-ramp, after which the Cadillac was struck from behind by a westbound 2008 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Janice Paik, 60, of Newtown.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Paik for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sexual Assault

State police report that at about 9:20 pm on June 4, they received a report from a bus driver about a male passenger having sexually assaulted a female passenger as the bus traveled on Interstate 84 through Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, and Newtown.

State police went to the bus, which was on eastbound Interstate-84, near Exit 9, to investigate. State police charged male bus passenger Adnan Baglan, 49, of Norwich, with fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree breach of peace.

Baglan was held on $10,000 bail for a court arraignment on June 5. In court, he pleaded not guilty to both charges. Baglan was being held on June 12 at the Bridgeport Correctional Center on $15,000 bail for a June 20 court appearance.

Mazda vs Pole

Police report that at about 7:12 pm on June 3, motorist Renneisha Coleman, 27, of Waterbury, who was driving southward on Botsford Hill Road in a 2003 Mazda MPV SUV, drove off the left side of the street about 200 feet north of Swamp Road and then struck an embankment and a utility pole.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Coleman to St Mary's Hospital in Waterbury for treatment of injuries. Police issued Coleman a misdemeanor summons for failure to drive in the proper lane, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have automotive insurance.
