Arrest Warrant

After he learned that police held a warrant for his arrest, James Brown, 76, of Wolcott went to the police station about 11 am on May 16 and was charged with four offenses in connection with an incident that occurred last September, police said.

Police said that they charged Brown with engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, and traveling unreasonably fast.

The charges stem from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on September 17 at the intersection of Mile Hill Road South and Nunnawauk Road.

In that incident, a 28-year-old local man told police that his vehicle was struck by a man who was driving a red Chevrolet pickup truck, after which the truck’s driver drove away from the accident scene.

Police have said that they located the truck a short distance away and then attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to stop. Police have said they then pursued the driver for a short distance, but then stopped the chase because it posed a significant risk to the public.

Following that incident, police investigated and then sought and received a court warrant for Brown’s arrest.

Following arrest processing on May 16, police released Brown on $10,000 bail for a May 30 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Brushy Hill Road

Police report that motorist Allison Abram, 39, of 19 Castle Meadow Road was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra sedan westward near 228 Brushy Hill Road about 8 pm on May 16, when she veered off the right road shoulder and struck a guardpost.

Abram was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve and for making a restricted turn.

Nissan SUV

At about 7:35 pm on May 17, an unknown motorist struck the right side of an unoccupied parked Nissan Murano SUV, which was in the parking lot for Caraluzzi’s Food Market at 5 Queen Street. The offender left the scene without reporting the collision. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Shoplifting

Police said they responded to a report of shoplifting at the Payless Shoe Source, a shoe store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25), in Botsford at about 2 pm on May 13.

Based on a vehicular description provided by an employee, police located the suspect several miles away traveling in that vehicle on the Ext 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84.

Following an investigation, police charged Theresa James, 45, of Danbury with sixth-degree larceny.

Police report that after processing, they released James on $500 bail for a May 29 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Motorist Brandon Russo, 21, of Shelton was driving a 2009 Hyundai Accent sedan northward near 182 South Main Street at about 4 am on May 18, when the vehicle went off the left road shoulder and struck some guardrailing, police report.

Russo was not injured. Police investigated and then charged Russo with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After arrest processing, Russo was released on $100 bail for a June 4 court arraignment.

Nissan Vs Lexus

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 71 South Main Street about 5 pm on May 17.

Police said that northbound motorist Tricia Johnson, 48, of 12 Daniels Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Lexus ES-330 sedan, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Kristin Hughes, 24, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Nissan Maxima sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said that they verbally warned Hughes for following too closely. Police report they issued Johnson an infraction for failure to renew a driver’s license.

Weapon Charge

Police said they received a report concerning a missing handgun at about 5:50 pm on May 17, after which they investigated.

Police said they then went to a business, where they found Julie Heinsohn, 40, of 39 Berkshire Road, who was the subject of the complaint.

After investigating, police said they charged Heinsohn with illegal possession of a weapon (pistol) in a motor vehicle and with interfering with police.

After processing, police released Heinsohn on $100 bail for a May 31 court appearance.

I-84 Crash

State police report that motorist Richard Benton, 67, of Hawleyville, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet  on an Exit 10 ramp on westbound Interstate 84 at about 1:50 pm on May 19, lost control of the vehicle and then struck a lightpost.

Benton was not injured. State police said they verbally warned him for failure to drive in the established lane.

Ramp Collision

State police report a two-car accident at the Exit 11 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 7:26 pm on May 12.

Motorist Alicia Janczewski, 31, of Southington, who was driving a 2012 Subaru Outback, was entering Interstate 84 at Exit 11, state police.

Motorist Fred Kelley, 49, of 12 Nunnawauk Road was driving a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro behind the Subaru when the Chevrolet went out of control and struck the Subaru from behind, causing the Subaru to go into a spin, state police said.

An ambulance crew was called to check the eight-months pregnant Janczewski for possible injuries, but she refused medical transport, state police said.

State police said they charged Kelley with reckless driving. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.

Sandy Hook Accident

At about 2:34 pm on May 20, motorist PJ Bandalos III, 22, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent sedan eastward on Berkshire Road near Bennetts Bridge Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1997 Honda CRV SUV driven by Mohammed Alam, 59, of Danbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Bandalos a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on westbound High Bridge Road, near its intersection with Botsford Hill Road, about 7:45 am on May 16.

Police said motorist Christina Komninakas, 36, of Shelton, who was driving a 2000 Volvo CX-70 SUV, struck the rear end of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV driven by Alyssa Grondin, 23, of 7 Dayton Street.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Komninakas a written warning for following too closely.

Juvenile Charged

Police said they received a report about 10:54 am on May 20 that a two-vehicle accident had occurred on Cedar Hill Road, so they went there to investigate.

Police report that before they arrived at the accident scene, one of the two motorists involved in the crash had driven away. There were no injuries.

Police located the person who had fled and transported the person to the police station. Because that person is under age 18, he/she is considered a “juvenile” and thus the person’s identity is not disclosed by police.

 Police said they charged the youth with evading responsibility, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, misuse of marker plates, theft of marker plates, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said they could not determine which of the two drivers involved in the accident had caused the collision.

Police released the youth on a written promise to appear on June 3 in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Honda Vs Chevy

A two-SUV collision occurred at the intersection of Glen Road and Cherry Street about 12:43 pm on May 19.

Police said the accident involved motorist Christine Doscher, 45, of 20 Alder Lane, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, and motorist Kimberly McIntosh, 37, of 14-B Housatonic Drive, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Doscher an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Prescription Lenses

Police are holding for safekeeping a pair of prescription eyeglasses that have been found. The small eyeglasses were found in the area at Newtown Middle School where the May 14 town budget referendum was held. The owner may claim the eyeglasses by identifying them at the police station.
