Road Rage

Police report they received a complaint about 10:45 am on May 12 from a woman concerning a “road rage” incident that had occurred on Queen Street near Lovells Lane.

Police said they investigated and then arrested William A. Brusca, Jr, 46, of 27 Forest Drive on charges of second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a child.

Police said they went to the scene and found that Brusca “allegedly approached a female victim on Queen Street, acted in a manner which caused her to fear for her safety and her child’s safety, and then allegedly spit on the female victim.”

Following arrest processing, police released Brusca from custody on $500 bail for an arraignment on the charges on May 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

Police report that on the night of May 8, they charged Mario Cruz, 43, of Bridgeport on a warrant with first-degree failure to appear in court stemming from his not appearing in Danbury Superior Court on May 1, as had been scheduled. 

The underlying charges in the case are one count of second-degree larceny and ten counts of second-degree forgery stemming from a 2009 matter, police said.

After processing Cruz’s May 8 rearrest, police released Cruz on $500 bail for a May 29 court appearance.

New Haven Man

Police said that on the morning of May 9, they arrested Roger Card III, 37, of New Haven on a warrant, lodging charges of second-degree forgery and criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny.

The charges stem from an August 20, 2012, complaint made to police. Card was arraigned on the charges on May 9.

Card was being held on May 14 on $102,600 bail on various pending charges in the New Haven Correctional Center for a June 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Mile Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred near the driveway entrance to Walgreens Pharmacy on Mile Hill Road at about 1:16 pm on May 8, police said.

The collision involved motorist Thomas Gleason of 16 Lake Road, who was driving a 2006 Audi A-4 sedan, and motorist Philip Hickey of 41 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gleason a written warning for a passing violation.

Man Arrested

Police said they received a complaint about 10 am on May 8 concerning a suspicious vehicle in the Route 302 area, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they stopped the vehicle mentioned in the complaint near 16 Main Street to investigate, after which they charged Alan Dellarocco, 52, of Hamden with possession of drug paraphernalia, simple trespassing, and failure to drive to the right.

Dellarocco was released on $200 bail for a May 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Evading Responsibility

Police report an incident at the Village Square retail center at 43 South Main Street at about 5 pm on May 11, in which the driver of a vehicle apparently struck and damaged a lightpost in the parking lot and then left the scene without reporting the incident.

The vehicle believed to have damaged the lightpost was a silver-colored Volkswagen with a marker plate which starts with the numerals “470.” The VW likely has rear-end damage.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station.

Items Missing

Police report they are seeking to find two items that have been reported as missing.

The items are among those which were owned by the late Anthony Macri, 67, of Sandy Hook, who died in February.

The missing items are a black boat trailer and a red and black log splitter that bears the initials “TM,” police said.

It is believed that Mr Macri had loaned the two items to local people before he had died, police said. Anyone with knowledge of the items’ locations is asked to contact investigating Officer Scott Smith at the police station.

Bronx Man

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jose Gabriel Rosario-Medrano, 28, of Bronx, N.Y., went to the police station about 4 pm on May 10 and was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Police said the arrest stems from their investigation into a complaint that the man had behaved inappropriately while working at a Sandy Hook residence in March.

After processing, police released Rosario-Medrano on $100 bail for a May 23 court appearance.

Pilot Into Pond

At about 8:17 am on May 12, motorist Taylor Reardon, 18, of 10 Timber Mill Road, who was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV eastward near 34 Riverside Road, went off the right road shoulder, reentered the road and then went off the left road shoulder, traveled down an embankment and landed in a pond, police said.

Sandy Hook firefighters removed Reardon from the SUV, after which she was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

 Reardon received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.

Unsafe Backing

Police report a two-car accident on Far View Drive, near Brookbridge Drive, about 6 pm on May 9.

Police said that motorist Philip Hennessey, 25, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2010 Kia Forte sedan, backed into a 2000 Honda Civic coupe driven by S. Kom, 35, of Southbury.

There were no injuries. Hennessey received a written warning for unsafe backing, police said.

Intersection Collision

Two vehicles were involved in an accident at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Poverty Hollow Road, and Key Rock Road at about 3:50 pm on May 9. All four legs of the intersection are controlled by stop signs.

Police report that the accident involved motorist John Neuhausel, 38, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Legacy station wagon, and motorist Maria Lounsbury, 48, of 236 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru legacy station wagon.

Lounsbury was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Neuhausel received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police report.

Sandy Hook Center

During inclement weather conditions, motorist Curtis Fitchett, 90, of 12 Cherry Street, who was driving a 1992 Toyota Cressida sedan northward on Washington Avenue, signaled to make a right turn onto Riverside Road, but in attempting to make the turn, the vehicle struck a traffic island and signpost at the intersection, police said.

Neither Fitchett nor a passenger were injured. Police said Fitchett received a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Botsford Crash

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Botsford Hill Road and High Bridge Road at about 2:15 pm on May 9.

Motorist John Zabarsky, 55, of Southbury, who was driving a 2012 Kia Sportage SUV southward on Botsford Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Jolene Santangeli, 32, of Easton, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Santangeli received a written warning for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

Motorist John Humphreys, 34, of Danbury was driving a 2007 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet east of Exit 11 on May 10, when he lost control of the auto and then struck some guardcabling along the left side of the road, went down an embankment and then struck a tree, state police said.

Humphreys received minor injuries and was transported to Danbury Hospital, state police said. Humphreys received a verbal warning for failure to drive in the established lane, according to state police.

Spin Out

Motorist Kai Borden, 20, of New Milford was driving a 2003 Hyundai Accent eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10 at about 11:36 pm on May 10, when he swerved to avoid a disabled vehicle, but lost control of the auto and spun out, with vehicle then rolling onto its right side on the grassy median, state police said.

Neither Borden nor a passenger were injured. State police said they issued Borden an infraction for distracted riving and for using a handheld cellphone while driving.

DUI Incident

Police report that on the evening of May 13, they responded to a report of an erratic driver on South Main Street. Police said they located the driver in question on Sugar Street and investigated.

Police said they charged motorist Christopher Champlin, 39, of Bethel with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they held Champlin on $500 bail for a May 14 court arraignment.

Acura Damaged

Sometime between 1 and 7:30 pm on May 6, while an Acura TSX sedan was parked on the south side of the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25), some unknown motorist drove into the Acura’s left front fender, damaging the auto, police said. The offender left the scene without reporting the collision. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station.

BMW/Chevy Collision

About 8 am on May 13, motorist Cynthia Dutertre, 44, of 50 High Rock Road was driving a 2001 BMW X-5 SUV northward on High Rock Road, as motorist Barbara Gribosky, 54, of 89 Alpine Drive was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, police report.

The BMW then attempted to turn left onto westbound Berkshire Road, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dutertre a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

West/Castle Hill

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Street and Castle Hill Road about 11:17 am on May 10.

The accident involved motorist Carole Andrews, 72, of 12 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester eastward on West Street, and motorist Jade Mather, 19, of 8 Winter Ridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler southeastward on Castle Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Mather an infraction for a stop sign violation and for a seatbelt violation.

Fire Truck

Police report an accident involving a town-owned fire truck and a convertible at about 1:07 pm on May 6 at the traffic-signal-controlled intersection of Riverside Road, Washington Avenue, Church Hill Road, and Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Police said that Kevin Stoyak, 40, of 2 Buttonball Drive, who is the first assistant chief of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, was driving a 2010 Pierce-Arrow XT fire-pumper truck westward on Riverside Road on a routine trip.

Stoyak then drove to the left of a small traffic island at the intersection in seeking to turn left onto Washington Avenue, police said.

At that time, motorist Neil MacDonald, 49, of 5 Beagle Trail, who was driving a 1995 Saab 900-SE convertible, was on Washington Avenue waiting at the traffic signal, police said.

As the fire truck turned to the left, its left rear wheel and its body struck the left front side of the Saab, resulting in the fire truck’s wheel rolling over the Saab’s hood and fender, police report.

Both MacDonald and Stoyak were wearing seatbelts and neither man was injured, police said.

After investigating, police said they issued Stoyak a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

DUI Case

Police report they responded to a motor vehicle accident about 8 am on May 10 near the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84.

After investigating, police charged Kevin Dick, 40, of Watertown with driving under the influence, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and also with infraction-level possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing, Dick was released on $500 bail for am May 23 court appearance, police said.

Unsafe Backing

Police report a two-vehicle accident on West Street, near its intersection with Main Street, about 10:26 am on May 14.

Police said that motorist Thomas Coryat, 52, of 29 West Street, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, backed up and inadvertently struck motorist George Case, 74, of 123 Head O’ Meadow Road, who was driving a 2005 Acura TSX sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Coryat a written warning for unsafe backing.
