Democratic Registrar of Voters LeReine Frampton reminds residents that the local registrars office has permanently deactivated Edmond Town Hall as a polling location.

She explained that while the building is compliant with Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) criteria for a public gathering place, it is not in compliance with the stricter ADA standards for a polling place.

As a result, District 3-2 voters will now report to the cafetorium at Reed Intermediate School, where they will cast ballots alongside voters from the Second District. Ms Frampton said separate stations will be set up for each district within the cafetorium.

That means Newtown voters must report to the following official State Election polling locations on November 4:

*Districts 1 and 1-5 vote at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street;

*District 2 votes in the Reed School, 3 Trades Lane;

*Districts 3 and 3-5 vote at Head O’ Meadow School, 94 Boggs Hill Road; and

*District 3-2 also votes in the Reed School, 3 Trades Lane.

In other election news, Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead advises Newtown voters that absentee ballots for Tuesday’s elections will continue to be available until the close of business, 4:30 pm on Monday, November 3. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Special hours for absentee voting are set for Saturday, November 1, from 9 am to noon, at the Town Clerk’s office in Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street. As of noon on October 29, 380 absentee ballots had already been issued.

Any qualified registered voter may vote absentee if unable to vote in person due to:

*Illness or physical disability;

*Absence from town during voting hours;

*Religious beliefs which forbid secular activity;

*Active US military service; or

*Service as an election official at a polling place other than his/her own polling place.

This year’s ballot contains a single question for voters, related to the future of absentee or expanded voting (see related story).

Any questions regarding absentee ballots can be directed to the town clerk’s office by calling 203-270-4210.
