The Newtown Public Schools Recovery Project has slated its next parent forums, which will be held at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Reed Intermediate School.

Each forum will be presented twice, once during the school day and again in the evening, to allow for maximum participation. Programs last for one hour.

The Sandy Hook School Parent Forum, “Summer Planning to Sustain Your Child’s Progress,” rescheduled from last week, according to the Newtown Public Schools Recovery Project, is set for Monday, May 5. It will be facilitated by Dave Cribbins, LCSW, of Clifford Beers and Sandy Hook’s School-based clinician.

The first presentation is set for 2 pm and the second is set for 6 pm. Both will be held in the school’s Lecture Hall.

The Reed Parent Forum, “Helping Your Child Recognize and Respond to Mean Behavior,” is set for Tuesday, May 6. It will be facilitated by Mark Augustine, LMFT, EMPS Project Coordinator, with Wellmore Behavioral Health, and Michelle Andrews, LCSW, and Genia Brockett, LMFT, with Wellmore and Reed’s school-based clinician.

This forum will identify and describe emotional, physical and cyber bullying, and offer suggestions for helping kids manage these situations. Strategies for helping parents and students prevent, identify, and curtail mean behavior will also be presented.

The first presentation is set for 9:15 am in the school’s cafetorium, and the second presentation is set for 6 pm in the school’s Library Media Center.
