Reed Intermediate School students in Maura Drabik and Todd Stentiford’s cluster presented their “One Person Can Make a Difference” project on Wednesday, April 10, in the school’s cafetorium.

During the presentation parents and invited guests made their way around the school’s cafetorium to visit with individual students, who each presented a different person who has made a difference in the world.

According to an explanation of the project provided during the presentation, the students were first tasked with selected an historical figure to study, then students organized and drafted a speech based on the person’s life.

“Finally and most importantly,” the explanation read, “students were asked to identify the unique qualities of their historical figure that contributed to their vision and ability to reach their goals. It is our hope that this project helps our children, our leaders of tomorrow, realize that it is within all of us to be the change we want to see, and that one person can make a difference.”

To present their speeches, students also dressed up as their chosen historical figure.

Some of the people represented were Susan B. Anthony, Galileo Galilee, Rosa Parks, Eli Whitney, Aristotle, Sonia Sotomayor, and Emily Dickinson.
