Richard Joseph O'Keefe

Richard Joseph O’Keefe, 74, of Newtown died May 15. He was the husband of Marie (Heymans) O’Keefe. He was born January 15, 1939, in Hornchurch, England, to Hannah (Hinchin) and Richard O’Keefe.

He moved to Canada at the age of 18 before moving to the United States, at the age of 19.  He served in the US Army, and then was employed by IBM for more than 30 years. During his time at IBM, Mr O’Keefe worked in the 1964 World’s Fair, where he was the valet for former President Eisenhower during his time at the event.

A resident of Newtown since 1979, Mr O’Keefe was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed coaching his three sons. While lacking significant formal education, he was an expert at Jeopardy and loved historical documentaries. 

In addition to his wife, three sons, Richard, Joseph, and Patrick; three grandchildren, Kyle, Emma, and Ryan; and his sister, Helen, survive Mr O’Keefe.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, May 20. Interment followed in St Rose Cemetery.

Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown was in charge of funeral arrangements.
