Robert Bassett

Robert A. Bassett, of Malvern, Penn., formerly of Newtown, passed away peacefully at home, with his wife and two sons at his side, on January 4, 2019. Bob was born December 7, 1946, in Pittsburg, Penn., and grew up in El Cajon, Calif., the son of Colonel and Mrs Ralph Harris Bassett.

He attended San Diego University for one year, where he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1969. After completing five years of military service, he attended the MIT Sloane School of Management, and later in life earned his law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law.

He worked for Union Carbide for many years. After receiving his law degree, he joined the Praxair Corporate Law Department, progressing from Corporate Counsel & Assistant Secretary through Senior Counsel & Assistant Secretary to Chief Governance Officer and Assistant General Counsel.

In his free time, Bob was active in the early days of the Newtown Soccer Club and Citizens Against Substance Abuse (CASA). He took great pride and pleasure supporting any and all activities involving his two sons, like Newtown High School basketball games, swim meets, musical concerts, and theater productions.

After living 35 years in Newtown, Bob and his wife moved to Malvern, Penn., in 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Vicki; and sons, Robert Anthony Bassett, his wife, Blair, and son, Graham, and Christopher James Bassett, his wife, Laurel, and their children, Zoe and Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 14, 2019, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Chester, Penn., followed by burial with full military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Penn.
