The fourth annual GORUCK Sandy Hook Memorial Light Challenge, raising money for the Sandy Hook Promise organization, is an endurance event is organized by GORUCK, a veteran-owned fitness and apparel company. It will be held at Wolfe Park, 285 Cutler's Road in Monroe, on Saturday, December 15, beginning at 10 am.

Rucking, a fast-growing fitness and community trend inspired by Army Special Forces, is at its heart the activity of walking long distances wearing a weighted backpack or rucksack. GORUCK events are driven by local communities and rucking clubs. While they incorporate intense physical fitness challenges and miles of rucking, there are also opportunities to share lessons and inspirational stories. The combination of shared camaraderie, team building, and storytelling is what drives the diverse GORUCK community, allowing participants to come together in face of tragedies such as the Sandy Hook shooting.

The event will be led by a GORUCK Cadre who is a special operations combat veteran and will teach people how to overcome adversity as individuals and as teammates through the events, while also leading them in remembering the 26 who lost their lives and the loved ones they left behind. The endurance event spans seven to ten miles and lasts approximately four to six hours.

Cost is $72 (including $12 for insurance). Fundraising efforts: Participants are required to bring $20 emergency cash to grab a cab if they are stranded or get separated from the group. At the end of the event, this money will be collected and donated. Last year they raised $2,100.
