The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Jackie Jones demonstrate in oil at the next scheduled meeting, on Wednesday, March 27, beginning at 1:30 pm.

Ms Jones will be painting an ocean scene concentrating on waves.

The demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. Admission is free

Ms Jones’s paintings summon ephemeral moments and emotions inspired by nature. Her rich color palette and lively brushwork capture the scents and sounds of the land: the rushing streams, rolling surf, rustling grasses, and salted winds of coastal New England, as well as her many travels.

Each summer, she paints to Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming, namely. She recently painted in Iceland and Norway.

As a child, Ms Jones studied with local artist Joseph Gionfriddo of Gilead. A former student of Guy Wiggins and James Goodwin McManus, Mr Gionfriddo instilled in Ms Jones a love of traditional oil painting.

Ms Jones earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Lyme Academy College of Fine Art as well as an Associate Degree in Illustration from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.

She exhibits year-round and has received numerous awards, including First Prize for Outstanding Work from the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City.

Her work is highly collected, and Stamford Hospital recently acquired a number of her paintings for its permanent collection.

In addition, Ms Jones teaches painting at Lyme Art Association, Glastonbury and Marlborough Arts, as well as drawing at Hill-Stead Museum. In the winter months, she works in her lakeside studio, painting larger pieces inspired by her plein air studies.

The artist’s professional memberships include Allied Artists of America, American Artist Professional League, American Society of Marine Artists, Oil Painters of America, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, The Connecticut Academy of the Fine Arts, Connecticut Women Artists, The Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society, The Salmagundi Club, and associations in Essex, Lyme, and Mystic, Connecticut.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs but additional information is always available at scanart.org.

“Icelandic Shimmers,” an 18-by-36-inch oil by Jacqueline Jones, is exactly the type of scene the artist plans to demonstrate during a free program at Newtown Meeting House this month.
