The Board of Education approved awarding a Hawley Elementary School roof restoration and replacement project to Garland/DBS as the project manager with Elite Roofing and Restoration, LLC, for $703,113, according to the school board's motion from the meeting.

Board of Education Secretary Debbie Leidlein explained the project was approved in the board's Capital Improvement Plan for 2017-18.

District Business Director Ron Bienkowski said the Hawley roof project was first proposed in 2015 to be completed this year. The original estimation for the project was $800,000, and it was later increased to $850,000, he shared. One section of the roof is "only 14 years old" and will be restored. Another section of the school's roof will be replaced.

"The low bid came in at $703,113, and that includes the contingency of ten percent," Ms Leidlein said.

The motion to approve the project was passed unanimously. Mr Bienkowski said the approval will help the project to be added to the contractor's summer schedule of projects.

"The authorization for funding for this roof was approved at last year's referendum, so we can vote on this and we can order the purchase order tomorrow and start ordering materials," said Mr Bienkowski.

The project will also include caulking for windows, checking and replacing other portions if necessary, and repainting areas from past projects, according to Mr Bienkowski.

"It's a complete reroofing and restoration for this school," he added.
