To the Editor:

I was very sorry to hear that Marilyn Place would no longer be the director of the Newtown Senior Center. With her experience over the many years; her organization, which kept everything going; and her caring for those who attended classes and lectures, she was the mainstay of the Center and the reason people enjoyed coming back.

She was the reason I was asked to do three power point presentations at the Lunch and Learn events of my travel experiences this past year, with more shows to come in the future, always to a very receptive audience. She made sure with proper advertising and word of mouth that local patrons would be aware of my photography and they could see the penguins from Antarctica, the chateaux of the Loire Valley, the golden treasures of Myanmar, and other locales on the big screen. I am indebted to her for including me during the year.

Her sudden departure and retirement is sad news to everyone who was touched by her enthusiasm and understanding as well as through her tireless work on behalf of seniors. I hope that those who respect her work and appreciate her almost 30 years of service to Newtown Seniors will be able to join in a retirement celebration of Marilyn, who cared so much for and worked so hard on behalf of all of us. She will be sorely missed and not easily replaced. We miss her already.

Many thanks for your attention.

Sincerely,

Hank Meirowitz
