Occupation: When we lived in Vermont, I got to work at Merry Meadow Horse Farm in Bradford. It was the best and most enjoyable hard work I have ever done. When we moved to Newtown, my husband and I both worked at The Newtown Bee. I also worked with Doctor Abriola the optometrist for about two years, then left to help raise our granddaughter. Right out of high school, I worked at a stenography pool for AT&T in Manhattan. When my husband went into the service in the US Army, he was stationed at Fort Dixon, then sent to Germany, so I quit my job and went to live there in Hallstadt, Germany, for nine months. When I came home I went back to Broadway at Western Electric as a secretary in the public relations department. I later worked as a secretary to a deputy commissioner in the department of parks and recreation in the town of Hempstead for 16 years.

Family: My husband George and I were childhood sweethearts. We met at 14, dated at 15, and got married when we were 19 years old. It will be 59 years on January 7, 2018. Our oldest son, Peter, lives in Newtown and has two girls, Alexandra and Leah. Our youngest son, Tim, and his wife, Janet, live on Long Island. They have two children, James and Olivia.

Pets: Scooby is a shepherd chow mix. He's a rescue, and is about 16 years old. He was found with two other dogs by the previous Newtown animal control officer.

How long have you lived in Newtown? For 21 years. When our oldest son was living in Norwalk, we started looking for a home in the area. It was the best choice we ever made to move here. Like everyone says, it really is friendly here. It's lovely, too. It's kind of like Vermont with the trees, but has enough busy stuff for my husband to do.

What do you like to do in your free time? I would like to live to be 200 years old just so I can do all the things I want to do. I enjoy family scrapbooking, making jewelry, and sketching whenever I can. I also am a member of Canine Advocates in Newtown. I joined around 2002 after meeting founder Virginia Jess.

Do you have a favorite book or author? I love to read anything on Abraham Lincoln. I'm kind of a Civil War buff. I like Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It's about how Abraham Lincoln picked his cabinet. I also love Robert Frost's poetry, especially "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening."

Do you have a favorite book that was turned into a movie? To Kill A Mockingbird was the best movie I've ever seen, and I had read the book first.

What is your favorite travel destination? I have a few. We've been to San Antonio, Key West, California. When the kids were little we always went to Vermont, and we went to Disney World.

What is the best part about Newtown? It has so many organizations, it's fantastic. When I wanted to learn to paint, I went to SCAN [Society for Creative Arts Newtown] to become a member. I took classes for watercolors and oils. Their artists are fantastic.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? Abraham Lincoln. He was the coolest president ever. I'd love to ask him questions like: how did he put up with his wife's odd ways? I think she had a thousand pairs of gloves and silly things like that.

Do you have a favorite TV series? Doc Martin. Even before the show, I always wanted to go to Cornwall, England. Also, I like Downtown Abbey - really any British mystery.
