Occupation: I’m retired from Cartus Relocation in Danbury, after 25 years, a great company to work for.

Family: I’ve been married to Eddie for 46 years. We have two children. Susan is married to Chris Quirk, and they live in Newtown. Jeff is married to Megan and they live in Bellingham, Mass. We have two fabulous grandchildren. Henri is 4 years old, and Sophie is 6 years old. My brother, Bob Chamberland, also lives in Sandy Hook.

Pets: I love animals, but I love my granddaughter more. She’s so allergic. I want her to visit, so no animals, right now.

How long have you lived here? We have lived in Sandy Hook for 29 years, always in our same house.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m busier now that I’m retired, than ever. I love begin with the grandchildren. I knit 24/7 and I play golf five days a week, weather permitting. We do craft shows in the fall and all of the money we make goes to our grandchildrens’ college funds. I make knitted and felted purses under the name “Purseabilities.” I do some reading and like walking, too.

Do you have a favorite author? I have to say Jeff Belanger. He has written 14 nonfiction books on the paranormal. He also wrote his first children’s book, Who’s Haunting the White House. I will say, in the spirit of full disclosure, Jeff is my son...

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Many years ago, I went to Lourdes, France, with my best friend. We stopped in Paris on the way back. I would love to go back to Paris one day with my husband.

What is the best thing about Newtown? My grandson, Henri, lives here. And Newtown is a fabulous community. When things are tough, or you need something, you get it here. People are generous.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My dad. His name was Joseph Henri Chamberland. He was the most positive, happy person ever, no matter what adversities he faced. He would put a cheerful spin on it. “Who has it better than me?” he’d always say. I truly believe that has rubbed off on me. I’m always happy. I believe you have a choice to be happy or not.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Yarn! I have more yarn than Michael’s and Jo-Ann Fabric put together.
