In honor of the 30th anniversary of its release, Planes, Trains and Automobiles (rated R) will be screened at 4 and 7 pm on Sunday, November 12, at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, 45 Main Street.

Tickets are $3, and the matinee will be captioned.

Director John Hughes takes holiday travel to nightmare level in this film, starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Neal Page (Martin) is the everyman character who is just trying to get home to his family on time for Thanksgiving.

"If something can go wrong, it will," states Murphy's Law, and Neal is a living example. Del Griffith (Candy) doesn't have it so easy either. He's in the same situation, but where Neal is a curmudgeon about it, Del tries to make the best of it.

Their trip from New York City to Chicago takes them via Wichita and St Louis, utilizing not only the title vehicles, but also a bus and a semi.

The situations these two characters find themselves in are more and more preposterous, yet painful as well, because they are opposites. Neal is a guarded, well-off business man with high expectations, which when not met causes extreme irritability. Del is an affable traveling salesman selling shower curtain rings, who makes the best of things, no matter what life throws him.
