To the Editor:

The Newtown Environmental Action Team (NEAT) would like to thank the people of Newtown for coming out and showing their support for the hybrid plastic bag ban ordinance that was passed into law on June 5. We would also like to thank the Legislative Council for their hard work and dedication to the welfare of our town and to our planet in passing the ban. While we know it was a controversial topic, on which it was difficult to get a consensus, we feel that ultimately our ban is one of the strongest and most environmentally sound in Connecticut, and will help our community lower its carbon footprint, which is key to fighting climate change.
