South Main Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road about 5:11 pm May 18.

The crash involved motorist Laura Bergeron, 31, of 81 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan, and motorist Rita Magliocco, 17, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Bergeron an infraction ticket for making an improper turn. Police issued Magliocco a summons on charges of driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without automotive insurance.

Mazda Off Currituck

Motorist Dwight Worrell, 55, of 5 Frontage Road was driving a 1998 Mazda 626 southward near 113 Currituck Road about 7:18 pm May 19, when he lost control of the auto, entered the northbound lane, struck some guardrailing and then went down an embankment, heavily damaging the auto, police said.

Worrell, who received unknown injuries in the accident, was transported by ambulance corps members to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police issued Worrell an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Short Hill Road

While maneuvering a 2003 Freightliner flatbed truck into a driveway at 3 Short Hill Road on May 17, trucker Cory Mcloughlin, 30, of Bethel struck a parked, vacant 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck, which was legally parked on the street, police said.

Mcloughlin was not injured. Police issued Mcloughlin a written warning for unsafe backing.

Route 302

Motorist Thomas Wilson, Jr, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Hyundai Elantra westward on Route 302 about 3:37 pm May 17, slowed for traffic and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Mario Alberghini, 45, of 155 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Alberghini an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle collision near 38 Church Hill Road about 2:49 pm May 10.

At that time, a westbound noncontact vehicle stopped, and its driver was waiting to make a left turn into the St Rose Church parking lot, according to police.

Westbound motorist Irene Eckert, 84, of 7-C Nunnawauk Meadows, Nunnawauk Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla, stopped behind the noncontact vehicle, police said.

A westbound 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan that was driven by Lorraine VanVeen, 44, of 8 Scenic View Drive, then stopped behind the Toyota, police said.

Westbound motorist Charles Perry, 17, of 12 Botsford Lane, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Beretta, then struck the rear end of the Plymouth, pushing the Plymouth into the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Perry a summons on charges of following too closely, failure to have automotive insurance, and failure to have a vehicle registration card.

SUV Vs Sedan

Motorist Donna Birch, 58, of 9 Baldwin Road, who was driving a 2003 Buick Regal westward on Church Hill Road about 2:34 pm May 18, slowed and then stopped, after which the Buick was struck from behind by westbound motorist Brian Carlucci, 25, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Carlucci a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

SUV Hits Pickup

Motorist Jon Pease, 18, of 38 Old Bethel Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastward on Route 34 at about 1:11 pm May 18, stopped in a line of traffic at a traffic signal, after which the Dodge was struck from behind by a 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by Steven Vichiola, 17, of 9 Charles Circle, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Vichiola a written warning for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Queen Street

Motorist Lisa Kubik, 22, of Stratford, who was driving a 1997 Honda Civic, was stopped at a stop sign at the end of Borough Lane about 8:30 am May 19, police said.

At that time, motorist Eric Hastedt, 21, of 11 Sand Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, was driving southward on Queen Street, police said.  

The Honda then pulled out from Borough Lane to turn left and head northward on Queen Street, according to police. The two vehicles then collided.

Ambulance volunteers transported Kubik to Danbury Hospital for treatment of pain, police said. Police issued Kubik a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

New Milford Man

Newtown police said Jonathan Berman, 29, of New Milford was arrested in New Milford on a warrant on May 22 on charges stemming from an October 2004 incident in Newtown.

Newtown police said they arrested Berman on charges of second degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, driving without automotive insurance, improper use of marker plates, and failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Newtown police held Berman on $1,000 bail for a May 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Mile Hill Road

Police report they spotted motorist Jose Martes Santos, 59, of Waterbury driving eastward on Mile Hill Road with an expired vehicle registration sticker about 6:26 pm May 17, so they pulled him over to investigate.

Police charged Santos with driving without automotive insurance, driving without a license, and failure to renew a vehicle registration.

After posting $240 bail, police released Santos for a June 3 court appearance.

Mercury Vs VW

Motorist Luella Leitner of 9 Possum Ridge Road, who was driving a 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet, was stopped at a traffic signal on westbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Queen Street about 1:43 pm May 22, police said.

Westbound motorist Ginelle Gaulin-McKenzie of 82 Glen Road, who was driving a 1995 Mercury Villager, then struck the Volkswagen from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gaulin-McKenzie a written warning for traveling at an unreasonable  distance.

Intersection Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road on May 14.

Motorist Julia Dee Truchsess, 49, of 123 Edgelake Drive, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, backed into motorist Caryl Timmel, 56, of 67 Riverside Road, who was driving  a 1997 BMW 318-TI coupe, police said

There were no injuries. Police issued Truchsess a written warning for unsafe backing.

Drug Charges

State police said they stopped a motorist for vehicular violations on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 7:10 pm May 16.

State police then charged motorist Leighton Johnson, 23, of Danbury with possession of marijuana, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while under suspension, and driving without wearing a seatbelt.

State police released Johnson on $500 bail for a June 13 court appearance.

Car Vs Pedestrian

Motorist Kristina Fahy, 24, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2002 Ford Focus sedan, was backing out of a parking space in the parking lot at Fireside Inn at 123 South Main Street about 6:32 pm May 22, while pedestrian Lonnie Brown, 21, of Naugatuck, was standing between the Ford and a parked 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, police said.

Brown told police that the Ford struck him as it was backing out of the parking space. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Brown to Danbury Hospital for treatment of leg and foot injuries, police said.

Police said they took no enforcement because the incident occurred on private property.

Rollover Accident

Police report motorist Camelia Bell, 22, of Cornwall, N.Y., who was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer eastward on Botsford Hill Road about 11:28 pm May 24, did not realize that the road makes a sharp curve to the left near the Housatonic Railroad overpass and drove up an embankment alongside the road.

The Ford then rolled over, coming to rest on its roof on the road, police said. Bell and three passengers inside the vehicle were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash, police said.

Bell received a foot injury. Passenger Shashawn Osborne, no age or town of residence given, received a cut on the forehead, police said.

Also traveling in the vehicle were Mike Lyn, 22, of Newburgh N.Y., and Leonard Pellington, 20 months old, of Newburgh, N.Y., police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported all four people to Danbury Hospital, police said. Police issued Bell an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
