In different rooms on Tuesday, March 31, Middle Gate Elementary School students and their parents experienced art, music, the library/media center, and Project Adventure lessons during the school’s Special Night.

Middle Gate Principal Chris Geissler welcomed everyone to the evening event in the school’s gymnasium, saying he was excited “to have you get a glimpse of what your kids do during the day in the arts.”

The evening, Mr Geissler said was being held to showcase the work students do in the school’s special areas.

Families rotated through the four rooms to experience lessons. In the gym, physical education teachers Laura Cooper and Tony Sortino oversaw a “team juggle” exercise along with other activities.

In the school’s music room, teacher Tina Jones oversaw a “Mallet Madness” activity that had participants rotate throughout the room on her signal to move to play a different instrument.

Art teacher Jean Walter had participants work on pieces of a larger construction inspired by the artist Henri Matisse. Ms Walter, when sharing instructions with one group, said the pieces would all be used to create “one big masterpiece.”

In the school’s library/media center, specialist Suzanne Hurley handed out iPads and a scavenger hunt list. People had to make their way around the library and, using a QR code reading app, scan each item on their list. People were also allowed to use their own devices if they already had a similar app.

Brother and sister AJ and Grace Zatulskis worked in Middle Gate Elementary School’s library/media center to complete a scavenger hunt on Tuesday, March 31, as part of the school’s Special Night, which highlighted lessons offered in the school’s special areas.
