Spikers Sandwich Barlow Setback With Wins Over Lauralton

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team sandwiched a loss to rival Joel Barlow of Redding with a pair of wins over Lauralton Hall of Milford this past week to begin the season with a 2-2 overall record.

On September 12, the Nighthawks topped host Lauralton 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19). Kyle Dandrea had seven kills, seven digs, and three service aces; Mylis Post compiled six kills and added three aces; Kayla O’Grady had five kills and three aces; Cassie Ekstrom tallied 10 digs; Tonya Tucker recorded five digs; and Meghan Logan piled up 20 assists.

Against Barlow on September 16, the Hawks fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19).

Post had five aces to go along with six digs; Ekstrom had seven digs; O’Grady and Dandrea had five and four kills, respectively; and Logan had 11 assists.

Newtown hosted Lauralton on September 17 and again came out on top 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-21). The Nighthawks compiled 17 aces; Dandrea led the way with four, Mackenzie Lapp, Logan, and O’Grady all had three, and Post and Ekstrom added two apiece.

O’Grady racked up 11 service points. Dandrea registered six kills and four digs, and Logan had 15 assists.
