Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ lacrosse teams, both seeded second in their South-West Conference tournaments, won their postseason openers in convincing fashion, at Blue & Gold Stadium on May 16.

Volleyball Team Defeats Barlow Again, Continues To Defeat Competition

Newtown High School's boys' volleyball team defeated visiting Joel Barlow of Redding 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 29-27), in the second match between the teams this season. Entering the match, Newtown was undefeated and Joel Barlow’s only loss came from the Nighthawks.

Softball Team Topples Stratford In Possible Playoff Preview

In a possible preview of a first- or later-round South-West Conference tournament game, and a contest that factored into earning a first-round home contest, Newtown High School’s softball team pulled away to defeat visiting Stratford 8-1 in a rescheduled game on May 11.

Girls’ Lacrosse Team Heads Into Postseason On High Note

Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with four consecutive victories as the Nighthawks followed up a 16-0 triumph over Notre Dame-Fairfield on May 7 with a 16-6 win at Bethel two days later, an 11-5 win over Fairfield Warde on May 11, and a 10-1 victory over Brookfield on May 13.

Different Circumstances, Same Result: Halmose Retains Run For Hunger Crown

Last year at this time, Justin Halmose ran his first 5K. And he won. Fast forward 365 days (plus a week) and several races later, and Halmose again came out on top in the Run4Hunger 5K to benefit the FAITH Food Pantry, hosted by Knights of Columbus, St Virgilius Council 185, at Fairfield Hills. The second annual race took place on a chilly, low 50s but windy, May 11 morning.
