A new logo for St Rose of Lima School was unveiled at the first Home and School Association meeting of the school year on September 14, according to Director of Mission Advancement Laura Moulder.

Principal Sister Colleen Therese Smith said the school's former logo was designed by a former student, while the new logo, said Ms Moulder, was designed by school parent and graphic designer Amy Griffin.

The new logo underscores, according to Ms Moulder, the school's long faith tradition as well as its commitment to being a place where children and families grow in age, wisdom, and grace.

As Sister Colleen explained, both the old and new logos incorporate the symbol of the rose and cross together. The new logo has a depiction of a rose at the center of a cross. Beneath the image reads, "St Rose of Lima School. Rooted in Faith. Thriving in Academics."

A video, created by Ms Griffin, was shared at both the September 14 Home and School Association meeting and with students during a whole school assembly on Friday. The video included images of what the school building looked like before and after its updates.

The old logo was used at the school for roughly ten years, according to Sister Colleen.

"We just wanted something that was fresh and really captured who we are as a community," said Sister Colleen.

When the school's Marking Committee began looking for new logo designs, Sister Colleen said another important aspect was to have a design that could be more easily captured in print, like on shirts. With three colors, the former logo was not easy to reproduce in print.

A brainstorming session was held to focus on the core values of the school, according to Sister Colleen, before multiple logo options were created by Ms Griffin. Sister Colleen explained the committee thought hard about which logo to choose, and eventually a design was reworked to create the final logo. The final design was approved by both Sister Colleen and Monsignor Robert Weiss.

Red and white are the school's colors and they are incorporated in the new logo.

Sister Colleen said the new logo demonstrates who the school community is as a whole.

"The cross at the foundation is that we are a Christ-centered school and so the cross is prominent," said Sister Colleen "Then the rose, the beauty of it is that it ties with St Rose [and] it also is a beautiful symbol of love in our culture... [and] the interlocking petals coming together as one community."

The school has many different families with different backgrounds, Sister Colleen explained, and the children come with different gifts.

"Together we form one community," said Sister Colleen.
