State Police Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement

State police report that during the Thanksgiving holiday period from Tuesday, November 20, through Sunday, November 25, they augmented their regular patrols with troopers in a traffic enforcement drive focused on violations including drunken driving and aggressive driving.

During that period, state police recorded the following violations: speeding, 573; seat belt violations, 291; and other hazardous violations, including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, illegal cell phone usage, texting, and failure to signal, 1,965.

During that period, state police made 25 drunken driving arrests and investigated 573 motor vehicle accidents, of which 60 accidents involved injuries. There were two vehicular fatalities during the period. One fatality occurred in North Haven on November 22, and the other fatality happened on November 25 in Bridgeport.
