Student Police Academy To Start At NHS
Police said this week they will soon start their annual Student Police Academy for some students at Newtown High School.
The academy is an informational program intended to provide participants with an overview of local law enforcement.
The program is open to high school students who have applied to participate, police said.
The academy sessions will start on February 2 and will be held once weekly for ten sessions.
Students will learn about a variety of law enforcement topics, including becoming a police officer, motor vehicle law, drinking-and-driving laws, and accident reconstruction, among others.
The course will be taught by Newtown police officers, as well as by members of state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Jason Flynn, who is the police departmentâs resource officer for Newtown High School, is the coordinator the Student Police Academy.
