Swim Team Beats Perennial Powerhouse Weston

Newtown High School's boys' swimming and diving team defeated three-time South-West Conference runner-up and six-time state champion Weston in the season opener, 96-73, at NHS on December 13.

The meet began with the diving competition and Joe Moran, the lone competitor, had a solid showing to get things started.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Michael Yu, Colby Delia, Michael Annesley, and Xavier Williams was first. Rick Irving was first and Sean McCleary second in the 200 freestyle. Jack Wojtowski was Newtown's fastest finisher in the 200 individual medley race and placed second.

Delia and Williams gave the Nighthawks a one-two finish in the 50 free. Annesley won the 100 butterfly event. Williams and McCleary finished one-two in the 100 free. Irving took the top spot in the 500.

The 200 free relay of McCleary, Delia, Wojtowski, and Irving was first. Annesley won the 100 backstroke race. Delia was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke race. The 400 relay team comprising Irving, McCleary, Williams, and Annesley was first.
