Teen Prevention Council To Host ‘Transitioning To College’ Program

DANBURY — The Regional Teen Prevention Council at the Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse will host its 2nd Annual Transitioning to College program for high school seniors and their parents on Tuesday, June 5, from 7 to 9 pm, at Western Connecticut State University’s Campus Center, on its westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension.

The program is designed to provide helpful information about concerns associated with substance use, underage drinking, and other behaviors that may emerge as young adults move from high school to colleges and university settings.

Internationally recognized speaker Michael Nerney will discuss substance abuse prevention and education strategies that work for young adults and parents. Matthew M. Maddox, a local attorney, will discuss aspects of protecting identity and property on a college campus.

Sharon Guck, coordinator of the CHOICES Office at Western Connecticut State University, will identify resources that are generally available on college campuses to help students and families tackle tough issues around substance use and other risky behaviors. Members of the Regional Teen Prevention Council, Local Prevention Councils, and the Drug-Free Schools Committee at Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse will also be on hand to speak individually about their activities and outreach efforts.

A complimentary supper will be provided during the event.

Space is limited. Reservations are required by calling 203-743-7741 or e-mailing sandy.leverence@hvcasa.org with name and the number of people in a party.
